Say Wut - Keep Rockin Digi EP Out Now

Super producer NSW aka Say Wut has just released a bangin record on the home of Baltimore Club music Unruly Records
Few producers have dominated Baltimore club music in recent years more than Say-Wut. And those who have, namely Rod Lee and Blaq Starr, have distinctive voices to rely on as their trademarks. Say-Wut, on the other hand, has become ubiquitous with a less immediately identifiable sound that's defined, more often than not, by his tracks' high energy and blaring volume.

Tonight: Bonde Do Role, Deathset, RR, Gang at JB's

If you notice, there is no Marina. Marina parted ways last year, shortly after their last show at Johnny Brenda's. Then there was this whole contest on Brazilian MTV to pick a new singer, they couldn't decide between two and so kept both.

The MOTHERFUCKING Deathset meanwhile are from Baltimore and Australia and Brooklyn. Their latest album is on Ninja Tune's Counter Records, their rock imprint, and meanwhile they've blown up. Emily Rabbit and Spank Rock have been telling me about them for awhile, course I stopped paying attention once they said it was a band...

Pick up their album from here

Also playing resident Danger Danger band Rad Racket "mixes dreamy hardcore with hippie jazz".

Finally, Bonde do Role's pick for this year and last Gang, riding shotgun and killing rats.

Tickets are $10, order them now.

PS: Afterparty at the mausoleum, byob and maybe a keg. 12 - ?

New Mickey Factz video and track

Mickey freestylin to a Precize beat with shout outs to Different Kitchen and Nah Right.

From Mickey
2nd week of Volume 2 and I have a crazy track right here. Competition at its best. When you put 6 lyricists in 1 room and throw a beat on, there's no telling what might happen. And this is no different to that statement. This track was very competitive in the sense that people re-wrote verses, some of us took inside shots at each other, we even told one dude his verse was straight garbage. All in all, its up to the people to decide who had the standout swag, best flow and illest verse. So once again, I present to the people: Jumanji!

DJ Dirty - Sundae Shakedown Yacht Party Mix (live)

Oh snap, house music all night long! I guess in this case all day long because DJ Dirty just hit me off with a mix from the Sundae Shakedown WMC Yacht Party. Sundae partnered with Shakedown for a yacht party down at WMC this year...Ok I'm just jealous and I can't really write anything more praising how cool it might have been cause I wasn't there. :( Just download the mix and book your plane tickets for Miami now before gas prices make you walk there because thats the only affordable option. I'm not mad. I swear. Expect soulful, funky, party on a boat house. Make some mojitos or caipirinhas and just chill. Use the grill, its nice outside. Invite some friends over. I'm having a BBQ real soon, I've got venison burgers. We're doing it real big this weekend. Holler at me.

"For your hipster flavor and house fresh smell, make sure you count on Dirty every time"
DJ Dirty plays every Sundae and monthly at 4 AM.

Kidz in the Hall - Driving Down the Block

I'm really feeling this song. A fun banger to roll through summer with the windows down sort of track. Sadly nothing else I've heard is anything like this at all. This reminds me of fellow Chicagoans Cool Kids - Black Mags (peddlin down the block...).

Scottie B Dj Class Malmo Sweden

If you don't know about Unruly Records and Scottie B yet then please go visit them. Pretty much the best Baltimore Club record label out there right now and pretty much inspired me to do what I am doing over at Flamin Hotz.

But probably my favorite producer that came out on Unruly has got to be DJ Class. This is the dude that is just behind a whole bunch of my favorite tracks. Tear The Club Up, Bombing Head, Stop Snitchin, Do It Girl

If you can find this ep buy it on site for this shit...

I know you wanna leave me
But I refuse to let you go
when you on the bed with me,
you been pleasing me
but there is something else that i need
I need some bombing head
Sweat baby and I won't leave you girl
won't let you go...

I don't have a myspace for Dj Class yet but when I get it you should add him

Expect big things from the kid in '08.

J Rizzle - Hello feat Spyder

New A town banger from J Rizzle - Hello featuring Spyder. I absolutely love this song. Almost has a trance hop feel with a real heavy synth minimal beat. First two verses are by my favorite although the third is growing on me. Compared to the other 4 songs on his MySpace this is such a departure and a good one at that. Sit So High has potential, as long as you can get through the first grating verse, the second is better and the third is much better.

You may know XXXChange from production for such acts as Spank Rock, Amanda Blank and Kid Sister. You may also know him from the skreets of Bmore. Panda Bear's Person Pitch is available now and I actually highly recommend it. I still find it weird, but it's undeniable.

Saturday: Making Time

Guess who's not playing at Making Time again? Thats right its Crystal Castles! Thankfully they're on tour with Health, so unless a bottle of Jack keeps them down they'll definitely be there and if nothing else Switch is there to drop that dirty jackin fidget house. Oh yeah, I heard a rumor while at SXSW, apparently the real reason Ethan from Crystal Castles is so secretive about his name is that he was in a band that we would make fun of him for. Hmm, maybe glam rock? 80's hair band? Goth death metal? Nu metal? I betcha it was nu metal, easier transition to nu rave.

As a little bonus, I got this in the mail. A little mix from JAPATTACK.

Therefore G-Unit is dropping Elephant in the sand as a free download over at the same day Fat Joe's Elephant in the Room, March 11th. TS7 the bad boy behind all those Heatseaker 12"s of fury has done it again. Straight up flipping the shit out of this new Estelle track. Shit is the biggest track in Bassline right now getting hammered by all the big boys. Shit is freaking nasty but idealy this track should be pushed to 142 BPM to get that full affect. Only think I am not feeling about this remix is that it does not have the verse from Kayne. His verse actually adds a lot to the track but TS7 just absolutely murders this track in that big Midlands UKG Bassline madness.

Cosmo Baker - Too Much Posse

Cosmo Baker has just released another incredible mixtape. This 2 hour plus mix is dedicated to the posse cut that used to appear on every rap album.
This was the record where the artist would invite some of his boys to drop verses on a song, and the end result usually ended up sounding like teh best rap party that ever. Sometimes it was a crazy combination of rappers that you would never think would even bless the same city, much less the mic. Sometimes it would end up being the jump start to a legendary career. Whatever it would be, the posse cut always brought the fire.

Here is a collection of some of my favorite posse cuts of all time. The initial list I had was much longer but in the end I had to trim it down. I had to make sure that (for the most part) the entire song played on this mix - I didn't want to leave anyone out. So here it is - let's go!

Throwback Jungle and Forward

Lets go way back into time with this one. Break out the glowsticks, PLUR, ROAR and all that. Remember Local 13 and their fruit parties, Evoloution, April Foolz, Skyline and the like. Have that fuzzy warm feeling? No idea what I'm talking about, it's all love.

First up tonight DJ Rap Reid Speed Annalyze is headlining 33Twenty with Swarm and Michael Myers. Its going to be ravealicious and I highly recommend you go to this. You should probably leave the glowsticks at home unless your bringing strings with them ;) Seriously though, Annalyze is a highly accomplished DJ and you should know about Swarm and Michael Myers.

As a bonus, I dug through my old collection and found a CD full of Myster Mason mixes from 99 - 01. Mason gave me this CD after dancing to A Side at the bar that is now Shouk like 5-6 years ago. Here is just a little treat. I'll keep peppering you with the mixes if you like them. Sorry no tracklisting.

Adam Sparkles January Mix 2008

That dude Bushy put me on to this mix by that dude Adam Sparkles. This is on some other chill out shit. Basically burn one down then turn this on while you wash the dish's and clean up your living room. Then lay down on the carpet and get ready for another stale night of tv and bullshit and think about how nice it was this weekend to walk your dog in Mt. Airy and some real trees. Saul William's Niggy Tardust Haiku

Saul and Trent combine

and create great Nine Inch Nails

but not quite the same

Get the point? If not here is a little more extrapolation for you.

Point: This new album by Saul Williams shows growth and development by him as a song writer and as a vocalist. He moves out of his poetic flow, mostly, for more singing, chanting and some screaming; to varying degrees of success (and, in my opinion, little failure.) Lyrically, his specialty, he moves away from much of his direct lyricism and towards a more opaque, metaphorical style.

Counterpoint: Fans of his that vehemently hate the sound of Nine Inch Nails will probably dislike this record. Fans of Nine Inch Nails that could ultimately love this record will most likely never give it a chance because they "saw him (Saul) open up for Trent and he was pure crap." (real quote...repeated several times to some idiots I xenophobic friends)

Below is their cover of U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday."

Cool Hand Lex - The Pimp is Finally Free

Got this tribute mix from Cool Hand Lex in the mail.
I wanted to hit you with this Pimp C tribute I mixed live earlier this week. The song selections are based off my favorite Pimp verses. I saved the tricks for other mixes; this is just a sampling of Texas flavor from the late pioneer. Check out the end where I edited some interview snippets that I think really capture what the dude was about.

dbt dbt dbt dbt dbt dun dun dun dun dun dun ddun air horn vocal burbr brurbrburbur

This is like the new type of music I am into. I have no idea what its called but I know its not dubstep. Basically its like that hybrid shit 4x4 and like speed garage and shit. I first got into from listening to Trouble and Basssss mixtapes and hearing Drop the Lime dj out and drop these nasty little gems. Then it was further solidified listening to the Dubsided camps bass lines that Herve, Switch and Sinden be droppin. Then I heard Todosantos and shit just floored me since they was using elements of this but in a new way. Then like a month ago I was told by a member of Todosantos that this genre is called Nichestep or some shit like that and I am totally into it. Todays mix I have been jammin all day is from these dudes Fagatronix that I grabbed out of Fact Magazine. Shit is nice and slammin. Fagatronix sound like some myspace dj crew of whateverness and this mix smacks of a bedroom and ableton live but I am totally feeling it.Added bonus they drop a Dwizz track...

Since your already over at Fact you might as well take a read of Sindens year wrap up of shit he is feeling. The article is dope highlighting a lot of my favorite people killing it in the game right now also, Buraka, Dude and Nem, Trouble and Bass etc just go read it.

Side note to Fagatronix you should read Catchdubs article in the new Fader about The New Dj Culture. You can download it from Itunes.

RCRD LBL & Justice feat Spank Rock and Mos Def

So the music industry has no idea what to do with itself. Blogs, mp3s and torrents have taken over, so what do you do? You create a blog/label funded by sponsors and give away the music for freeeeeeeeeee!!!
Well, we'd like to welcome you to RCRD LBL, a brand new music site where all of the downloads are both free AND legal. In a world where many people get their music for free, we wanted to create a site where bands we loved could put their music out there for free AND get paid for it. RCRD LBL is a new model and an experiment, putting great music out there for free and with absolutely no DRM
So with that, comes their first post featuring a Benny Blanco remix of Justice D.A.N.C.E. with Spank Rock and Mos Def lending their lyrics.

M.I.A., Bun B and Rich Boy - Paper Planes

Picked this up from the MadDecent blog (I need to add their feed to my netvibes, do they have a feed?) and this track kills. First, Bun's verse includes the incredible line "being poor is a disease, gotta hustle up a cure". Second, I never really "listened" to Rich Boy. The first single, was just "Throw Some D's on that". This verse though really made my ears perk up and go back and want to listen to his album which I have to say is quite good. My favorite part of this verse is "Her name is Beretta and shes motherfucking crazy" except I need to add extra letters because the way he says it really makes it pop.
Don't forget M.I.A. is playing live on December 1st at the E Factory. Pick your tickets up from Ticketmaster or better yet go to the TLA (Mon to Sat 12 - 6) to avoid Ticketmaster fees. Or if you're big balling, buy the all inclusive package offered by

Bonus: Download the instrumental from MadDecent and download the Sri Lankan remix by Esau Mwamwaya.

Back to Rich Boy:

This is such an awesome video/track. Honestly, the first time you heard "Throw Some D's" you were like awesome one hit wonder, but here he is on his 4th single. Pick up his album for only 9.99 from Amazon. All I'm saying is "The south got something to say".

DJ Andy Smith Monday October 15th

Next Monday Cosmo Baker is back in the building with DJ Excel, MC Lix and special guest Andy Smith. You may know Andy Smith with his better known group Portishead. From his bio:
Andy Smith was the first DJ to release a multi-genre mix album on a major label. When his mix-CD The Document hit the streets back in 1998, it became the soundtrack for a generation who had heard Coldcut's Journeys By DJs but needed to hear more
To better acquaint you with Smith's style I'll be posting mixes so you can hear for yourself. This will surely be a night not to be missed if you are a fan of Shadow, Yoda, Food, Z Trip or the turntable as an instrument.
Oh and the best part? No cover all night as long as you sign up on the guestlist. I would suggest signing up sooner rather than later though as the list will be capped early.

What it Do

Its a hip hop weekend thanks to Flava Fest. We still got plenty of other jump offs around the way too. Normally, I would wax on about something unrelated or something from last night, but I already did that in the next post on down the page.

  • Flava Fest says go watch breaking at FUEL with their open bar (3rd and arch)
  • Colt45 more your thing? Turbostation sex planet madness with Steven Bloodbath and Strawberry Mansion on the main floor, Hurrah and Apt One in the Basement and the lovely Oh Murder Inc! along with the Super Todd Bros. Free colt and entry until midnight all at Transit (6th and Spring Garden)
  • Remember Bat for Lashes and their insanely awesome video? They're playing tonight at Johnny Brendas. $10. (Frankford and girard)
  • Live DnB at the Raven Lounge with the Damaged crew (1708 Sansom)
  • Weekend long short DIY independent films curated by Ted Passons who was responsible for Dopeness
  • Flava Fest says go to 40th and Walnut during the day for breakin and graf etc
  • Old school vs new school
    • Pharoahe fuckin Monch ain't a damn thing change (except getting paid and ghost writing for Diddy) at the Troc or
    • Biz Markie at Fluid.
    • I bet you could do both, Biz won't go on until 12, 12:30, plenty of time to get from the Troc
  • Late night with the Illvibe collective at Duplex at the Arts Garage (1520 Parrish)
  • Bleached black for more hip and less hop with Bleached Black and yinzer Apt One at Medusa
  • Crooked Looks are playing at this place. I bet it would be fun.

  • Mojito is still going strong. Still. Still. Reduced guestlist.

This week from the UK is Darren Holland and on the mic crooning out soulful songs is Philly's own Lady Alma. Sake sangrias on special, $5 or free with college id. Beautiful people and beautiful music. 3 - 9 at Bubble House, 3404 Sansom.
  • Found Magazine presentation 7 PM at the FU Church (22nd and Chestnut)

Hip Hop Links

First off, Brendan Bring'em is the best DJ in the city hands down. Promoters outside of Philly need to be booking him across the world. Philly consistently has some of the best DJ's ever. I feel honored that I can go see him 5 nights of the week and know that he'll absolutely kill it. Those last 45 minutes are so focused. If you haven't seen him see him Sundays at Loie, Wednesdays at Walnut Room, Thursdays at Bamboo, Fridays at Tragos or Saturdays at Mojito, be sure to make time in your busy schedule. He has so much heat coming it's not even a question. As soon as young Jes One gets on his grind and completes his mixtape for the mix series, I'm sure you'll all understand if you didn't already know.

Kanye vs 50 Cent: Kanye Wins

Its official, according to Nielsen SoundScan, Graduation came in at #1 with 957K copies while Curtis debuted at #2 with 691K copies, while Kenny Chesney debuted at #3 with a paltry 387K copies. The last highest debut was Fiddy's own Massacre which sold 1.1 Million. Personally, I'm curious as to how the two will compare over the next few weeks. Which will drop faster? Overall, hip hop wins as do the big shots at the labels. Plus fresh off the presses are two leaked tracks from 50 and friends.
As much as I was pulling for both albums, I wish 50 would take more chances like he did with Smile. He has it in him but thinks he has to stay painted into the corner, thinking that will sell him the most albums. One more album, Fif. Take some chances, you have nothing to lose.

Spank Rock and Benny Blanco - Shake That

Just caught this over at the Spank Rock myspace blog via pitchgeek
An EP he'd been working on with producer Benny Blanco that takes freak nasty Miami bass pioneers 2 Live Crew as its inspiration.

Well, Benny and Spank must've tweaked their nasty just right, as the Bangers & Cash EP is ready to hit the dance floor, complete 2 Live Crew samples on every song and an homage to 2 Live Crew's notorious Nasty As They Wanna Be cover as its artwork (see, um, above).

Myspace will be rolling out four of the EP's five tracks as free streams, starting with "Shake That" this Thursday, September 6. Every week, MySpace will feature another Banger as their "single of the week," with a video for "Loose" to follow on October 3. And, starting October 9, you can sneak Bangers & Cash out of the record shop with a sheepish look on your face, thanks to Downtown Records.
In most instances I would ask why they would say sneak out the record with a sheepish look on your face but then I remember I'm reading pitchgeek and it explains everything.

When crazy people grow up....

Yo so I thought I would write an update from that VIP party with Gravy Train and my new favorite no wave band straight out of Philly - GANG. They came on around 8:30 to a semi packed room but by the time their second song pumped in all the kids outside rushed in to get down. I got up close to the stage with this dude in bathrobe who looked like he seriously did just get of the R5. Regardless Gang killed it with their witty banter, blazing hot attire, and over all "fucking shit up" attitude. Like seriously I think what is so captivating about these girls is they act like they are gonna beat the shit out of you and like drag you by your hair to South Philly, then put you on a spaceship and fly your ass to Pluto and lock you in basement and only let you out when they wanna make out with you. I was really feeling it on so many levels, plus they got some dope dance moves and they rock glocks (no uffie). Below you can find my favorite song from them plus this really boss b-52's cover when like the b-52's where dope and no wave and like about fucking with you and having beehives and playing organs and not love shacking it up with VH1.
Yo then my boys (editor: pause), VIP came on stage. Of course they was on some drama shit that night, but I loved it. Johnny had some crazy eye costume on that was kinda all over the place. They did Mad Coke and then like 4 new tracks that I hadn't heard before. Julian Process was kicking it in the back bringing back the sexy DJ for real. The highlight from VIP was Johnny getting on a speaker pulling off his pants and letting the crowd inspect his but walls... they was dirty. Regardless they had this joint that was a reworking of that song Imagination off the Pink Skull 12" from a couple of years back that I was feeling. Side note some dude in the crowd had a shirt that said "I Ain't down with that brown" what a freaking classy shirt. I wouldn't have even thought to make that shit.

Gravy Train, yikes what happened? Shit I think they just grew up. Like two years ago they were like 22 and wanted to get wasted, run around stage naked, play awesome new wave songs about titties and fucking dudes. Now they are like, we is 24 and are taking our shit seriously, still thick and are gonna show off our boobs, rock the shit out of some fishnets put our record out on some obscure label out of Mississippi that doesn’t have the distro like Kill Rock Stars. Shit they got some myspace fucking love though. I had no idea that this shit is like on and poppin like that on myspace. I need to step my under 18 fringe music group knowledge up. The singer started calling out all these songs from their myspace page and the kids were going nuts for that shit. I guess it was an all ages show which I really like since its kinda cool to see girls who are 17 who need attention strip down to their underwear and dance around in front of you while you drink Old English pounders. Yo also big shouts out to that girl who had the spider webs on her clavicles that had pink in them. I was like you are such a punk rock chick. (p.s. you just really ruined any chances for you to wear low blouse at work in the future, like that is some serious serious bad life choices you just made, but fuck it I love it, shit makes girls so much hotter, yo I wish I could go into the future and just see some of these people, like I bet that girl is going to be a therapist or some shit).

But on some other shit they was jamming for a good 45 mins and had the whole place going ballistic so I can't really hate. I mean shit I had a good ass time and would definitely see them again. They also did a track with VIP that was pretty funny since they all got in a line and did the can can dance. Also some dude in the crowd grabbed at the girl Junx costume and ripped it and then some douche in the crowd (wearing matching dayglo hat and wife beater, yes ebay) went back stage and freaking sewed the shit while gravy train kept doing there show. Like that is so not punk rock, or wait is that gay punk? Or like if your gay and you like punk rock is that why you like No Wave? Oh shit.

(Baltimore update soonish, aka Baltimore Hipsters are so much more core then South Philly hipsters, or they just have worse teeth.)

The Day Of Silence is a one day protest to highlight recently enacted fees for online radio. Not only will fees be higher in the future, but they will be applied retroactively.
According to calculations made by the Radio and Internet Newsletter, or RAIN, AOL retroactively owes about $1.65 million in sound-recording royalties for that month alone (and that doesn't include songwriting royalties). By the end of this year, according to RAIN, the company could owe roughly $20 million -- unless the rates are overturned by the board or by Congress, which is still a possibility.
Not only will this affect "traditional" Internet radio but also sites such as Pandora and Although, has decided not to participate in the protest. Local radio stations such as XPN and WKDU will cease to operate online among thousands of others due to these crushing fees. Please visit to learn what you can do to help.

New from Pocketknife

Just got this brand new remix from Pocketknife (one half of Flagrant Fowl with Cousin Cole). Its a remix of White Magic's "The Gypsies Came Marching After." Honestly, that doesn't mean anything to me but the track is hot. Wikipedia tells me that White Magic is a "folk rock group from Brooklyn, NY headed by Mira Billote". This makes total sense as the next release from Flagrant Fowl will be a "forthcoming mix CD Tambourine Dream, which will feature 17 or 18 Flagrant Fowl remixes of folk songs new & old." Flagrant Fowl - flipping folk to blog house, hahaha, maybe not that funny. Enjoy

More Bounce and Free CD's

Some of you loyal readers may remember when I used to do posts of 10 tracks at a time. It was like Chrismakwanakah etc all in one post. I stopped because it wasn't regular and would wait to post until I had enough. Well, today is special. If you're still reading this, I have Bonde Do Role "Sola O Frango" and A Trak - Dirty South Dance CD's to give away. The first two people to email 5151List[at]gmail{dot}com with subject "Dirty South Role" with the answer to the following questions will receive both free:

What bone did Marina break while on tour last year?
2.)What is the name of the label that A Trak started with Nick Catchdubs?
Whew. Support the artists, buy their music and book them at shows or see them play.

Lymbyc Systym

Lymbyc Systym come recommended from a new friend. I normally would have completely missed these guys and the fact that they are playing at the Fire tonite. However, I decided to check them out and was pleasantly surprised. Since there is very little music I listen to that sounds like this, I always compare them to The Books (a favorite of Seg's) or the Philippians. There are usually two responses to this a)Who?? or b) They sound nothing alike. I find all three seem to be treading somewheres between acoustic, folk and electronic music. Much of the Lymbyc Systym sounds more IDM / ambient while the Philippians use more samples and The Books almost completely rely on disparate samples. Exploring a whole new genre on here is rather difficult. I often hate to read music reviews in so many publications as it sounds like the author is trying to impress not with the music but rather their intimate knowledge of abstruse vocabulary. Luckily this a music blog.
Pick up Love Your Abuser, Live or a Tshirt from their merch store. Carved by Glaciers is sold out.

Jai Alai Savant - Thunderstatement

2005 like whoa up in this bitch. All of these tracks are taken from the "Thunderstatement" EP from the Chicago by way of Philly band Jai Alai Savant. These dudes basically make incredible reggea dub dance rock tracks that some how seem to flow into each other on endless loops. I saw them live, bought this cd and played it non stop in the car on the way home. Really some great music in here. So the other day I am over at Repo Records selling some CD's back and I only get $7 in store and I am looking around and can't decide what I want. And there on the wall is the new full length "Flight of the Bass Delegate" on vinyl for $11 bucks. So I had to get it and to my surprise they re recorded a lot of the tracks. So all of these right here are on the full length but not the same mixes. I still love listening to this EP since it sounds like Major Taylor is jumping out of my headphones yelling at me about his love life. Shit is really ill. So also please support these guys by going to their shows and buying the CD. It's really good. I listened to it the other day hung over while laying on my porch drinking a cup of coffee at 9:45 in the morning, I am gonna miss my roof deck.

DJ Funk on Saturday

Before Baltimore Club killed it for me in the clubs there was Ghetto House also known as Juke or Booty House from Chicago and Ghettotech from Detroit. (Ghetto House and Booty House are both all encompassing names for a number of different sub genres of music while Juke is specifically from Chicago and Ghettotech is specifically from Detroit.) Names like DJ Funk, DJ Assault, DJ Godfather and Slugo were banging that 130 BPM + music. There were so many classics that I would bug out to if I heard in the club. It was fast, it was bass heavy and the songs were raw. DJ Funk was one of my favorite DJ's and if he was playing I would be there. Songs like "Sex on the beach", "Playa Haters in Dis House", "Face Down", "Booty Bounce", "Let me bang", "Pump It" and so many more classics. There were so many because the DJ's would run them for maybe 2 minutes a piece if that. Watching them spin was a workout because they would constantly be changing records. Cue it up, mix, switch and repeat for 2 hours. Check the interview below for a history of Ghetto House, including how the name came about, and interviews with Funk, Waxmaster and more.

Now you can see DJ Funk on Ed Banger remixing Justice and so many more. Here is a 20 minute mix from 1999.
You can see DJ Funk live with many more this weekend at Whistle at Shampoo. Buy tickets online from or from 611 at 611 South 4th Street.

Tonite: Planet of the Drums: Platinum Reunion

Incredible. Planet of the Drums is back for a special Platinum reunion. Dieselboy's Platinum night at Fluid (613 S. 4th) every Thursday was one of the premiere places to hear new drum n bass and jungle in the US. Every week a prominent producer or DJ would take the decks to a packed house. Resident DJ's Sine and Icon held down warmup duties while Dieselboy was away touring the world. Relive just a little bit of the magic tonite with AK1200, Dara, Dieselboy and J Messinian along with Kaos, Sine, Sharpness and Illy.

So I dug in the crates and found some old school and new school sets from Dieselboy and Dara.

Here is a cassette rip of Killa Sound from 1995. Houstonbeats has the tracklist
I briefly mentioned Sutpen's Jungle yesterday but it was the biggest jungle/dnb full party there was in the city, the East Coast and possibly all of the US. For years it was in a DIY warehouse called the Fake House in West Philly. In 2000, Substitution moved it to the Electric Factory. I used to have the flyer and might still somewhere. The lineup was incredible. Anyways here is a live set from Dieselboy
Last but not least is a newer set from Dslboy in January of 2007

Claude VonStroke - July 2006 Promo Mix and club history

I've dug up yet another Claude VonStroke mix. This one comes from July 2006, a bit old but I can't tell since I don't recognize most of the tracks. Its still banging though. Pick up tracks from VonStroke and others on his DirtyBird records from Beatport. Also, there is this party at this place that I may have mentioned once or twice.

Honestly I'm just excited that Fluid is 10 years old. Thats an eternity in club life. I've been going through clubs in my head and can't think of one that has been open the same amount of time. Transit is close but that nearly closed I don't know how many times. Places like Lounge 125 have gone through 4 or 5 incarnations at least in the past 10 years. SoMa use to be a cool spot for dancing but that was converted to Bar Named Sue then shut down. Medusa has been around for ~3 years and before that was a jazz club. Sals has been booking dj's for 1 - 2 years. 700 club has probably been open quite awhile but they never bring in outside talent. Pure used to be huge but under a different name. Skyline and 1516? (I think) used to kill it in Chinatown but have both been closed and leveled since like 98,99. Evolution on Delaware Ave. was big for awhile but is closed. There was Space but that only lasted a few years until it turned into Motion which lasted even shorter and is now vacant. M Room took over where Aqua Lounge left off. Shampoo I think is the only club still open and they've fell off. They barely bring in any big talent any more except if there is a Whistle there. Where else is there? Am I missing something on Delaware Avenue? I'm pretty sure most of those clubs have gone under an overhaul within the last 5 years. Whats your favorite place to listen to dance music now or in the past 10 years? Leave it in the comments.

Nate Day - Space People Space Disco

What up party people? Just got this new banging blog house / electro space disco mix for space people. I was going to write this long bio trying to peace together Nate Day's DJ career over the past 6 years in my head but then I noticed he wrote his own bio so I'm just going to copy and paste pieces.

I started djing about 6 years ago in my parents laundry room with no monitors just headphones. From there my friend Jay Simplefly gave me my first opportunity to play in front of a sold out Philadelphia crowd in January of 2002 after only djing for about a year, I rocked it soooo hard! A few months later I had my first residency at the greatest club on earth, the Parkway diner for the Subcode weekly.
Nate Day and friends started Rowdy at Medusa which developed into..."the most out of hand, beer flying, roof pounding, sweaty dancing, drum and bass party I have ever been a part of or been to for that matter...In late 06 I had the chance to hone my non dnb skills by playing to a very diverse crowd at the Sunday is the New Black party hosted by PaperStreet and Simplefly...Life was good but I decided I would like to really dig deep into music production and engineering and work on my tan, by moving to LA for Recording School"

So without further ado: Download Nate Day - Space People Space Disco

1. Intro- Nate Day and Jimi Hendrix
2. Loverboy - Kid Alex
3. Get Low/Club Action - Herve and Yo Majesty (Scattermish Timid Edit)
4. Yo - Bassnector (Speaker Junk Remix)
5. Golden Skans To Interzone - The Klaxons (So Me Remix)
6. Rapture - My Robot Friend (Hellraiser Freeleance Remix)
7. Turtle Trouble - Para One
8. Take Me Back To Your House - Basement Jaxx (Speaker Junk Remix)
9. Destination Overdrive (DFA Remix) - Chromeo
10.Dance Music ( Toxic Avenger Mix) - Sexual Earthquake In Kobe
11.Ross Ross Ross - Sebastian
12.Bird Flu Guns Up Bazuka- M.I.A
13.Rainbow Man (K. Christmon Mix) - Busy P
14.Death From Above (SMD Remix) - CSS
15.Tambozuda (New Rave World Mix) - Sinden and Count of Monte Cristal
16.Don't Be Shy (Speaker Junk Remix) - Spektrum
17.Trina Kills - Mr. Oizo
18. Dj's Don't Dance - Matthew Savant

Chk Chk Chk Boom Clek

I mean how are you not going to see !!! tonight Philly at the TLA?. Their name is from one of the greatest movies from the early 80’s, “The Gods Must be Crazy”, that is centered on a dude throwing a coke bottle off the edge of the world. I first found out about these dudes from that comp on Plant Records with “Me and Giuliana…” on it and it was on constant rotation and then I realized I could also go get their full album. Man I was killing it back in 2004. Since then, they've put out some pretty fun EPs and they got a new album out now, Myth Talkers, from the good people at Warp Records. Seriously Warp is killing it with this picture disc of the new track “Heart of Hearts”. Get your ass down to the TLA tonight. Looks like Martin posted the new single over at discobelle too…

Lets Listen to Brazilian Artschool Alternative Funk

Ohh Bonde Do Role!

Early in the year the boys over at Mad Decent were busy working hard with Domino Records on penning a deal for these Curitiba natives. They dropped this little promo CDR of new tracks and some exclusive remixes. I think they were selling this on tour too but when they came to play Philly it was at Upstairs at Sals and there was no room for a merch table. Actually there wasn't even a stage, they just got in the middle of the dance floor grabbed the mics and started doing there show. I think there are some pictures floating around of them dancing around with packed room full of hipsters trying to sing a long with out knowing any Portuguese. So as a super special giveaway we are going to give away one copy of the new "Solta o Frango" single on Domino Records to whomever hits me up on them emails with their favorite Bonde Do Role moment.

Well this is a remix track from that CD done by non other then the bol DJ A aka Doc Money Beats. I knew DJ A has been running the mastering game doing stuff for Bonde Dol Role, Trouble and Bass, and all your other favorite labels, but I had no idea dude was dropping remix nuggets. Check out this remix he did using BOC's "Don't Fear The Reaper". Man this totally reminds me of that movie about the two dudes who are trying to bang those chicks (no buffalo chicks) who are house sitting and the whole movie revolves around the dude having an outer body experience with the spot light from the Blue Oyster Cult show......

Fear the Reaper.....
