DJ Edgar Mixtape 2008

Here is DJ Edgar with the latest release from Flamin Hotz Funkeiros e Progresso. Unfortunately I couldn't meet up with Edgar directly due to his hectic schedule, but I did get to meet his lovely wife in Ipanema. Anyways, I just got an email stating that DJ Edgar is no longer acting as tour DJ for Mr. Catra. He has decided to venture out on his own. He is in the process of booking a European tour in May. Holler at his booking agent here (info [at] barbrasil [dot] se). With a new tour comes new mix, so I present to you a 22 minute mix with baile funk, electro and more.

No one buys CD's any more so we decided to make the collest most indebpth CD on this subject ever. Its gonna be like 40 pages of information to turn any body into an instant Baile Funk expert. Again super stoked.

Throwback Fridays: The Girl From Ipanema

Garota do Ipanema aka The Girl from Ipanema as seen here with Antonio Carlos Jobim and João Gilberto.

Bom dia! So I'm heading out to Rio today for Carnaval. I so can't wait. Flamin Hotz 10 just got expedited and arrived today, its Funkeiros e Progresso all fully contracted out, with royalties paid out directly to the artists. Shit is banging, green vinyl, green inside printing, spot gloss and of course some banging funk, out soon at your favorite record store with the full CD compilation out by the end of February. We had to get it expedited so I could take some down to Mr Catra, MC Gringo, Beto da Caixa, Cabide, Sargento and DJ Edgar. Saturday I plan on going to a real baile funk to see Sandrinho play in his home favela Borel. Meanwhile I'm missing Sany Pitbull and Carioca Funk Clube in another part of the cidade. Meanwhile, Saturday day and Sunday day is all about the blocos or street parades. What a tough life.

DJ Sega - Rockstars vs Clubheadz

Oh snap, it's here! Volume 2 in the 5151 Mix Series features DJ Sega with his mixtape Rockstars vs Clubheadz. The first half of the mix is all rockstar remixes like Bodies on the Floor, Last Resort, Party Like a Rockstar and more. The second half is all that club ish, like I Get Money, Money in the Bank, Buy You a Drink and more (full tracklisting). This is some next level ish. When I finally saw the front design I bugged out. You can't see it very well in the above pic, but blue Sonic the clubhead is wearing candy bracelets and has glowsticks (Get a better view here). So ill.

Since the streets are asking, I've set a handful aside that you can buy directly from me. They just went off to the distributor so they should be in stores real soon like. If you're in Philly, stop by Pedestrian and pick one up there. Otherwise, holla at me. Each of the first sent out will be $7 with $2 shipping to US & Canada only. Email me at 5151List [at] gmail for rates to other countries. Guess you slept on this. It will be out real soon like

NOW available at the Lab and your favorite record store.

Also, this Saturday come out to Transit for the official release party at Mad Pussy with DJ Sega, and Dirty South Joe in the basement while Brendan Bring'em rocks the main floor. Holla at the list for $5 entry and free PBR from 10 - 12.

DJ's, don't feel left out, a DJ Sega / Blaqstarr EP is dropping as Hollertronix 8. Nothing but ill rock/roq star remixes. Peep the artwork / tracklist.

Shout out to Flamin Hotz for distribution, DJ Sega representing Brick Bandits and introducing Dirty South Joe and Ol' Head Records. Design by New New Crew.

Bonus: DJ Sega - Action News Theme.

Tambourine Dream Promo Video

I hate teh Internets sometimes. I want to fucking post this YouTube video but I can't for the life of me copy the embed code, so for right now (and I mean for the next week or so). You're going to have click this link. Its totally worth it. Cousin cousin cole and Pocketknife are releasing Tambourine Dream a series of folk remixes on CD and vinyl. Let me just say that the vinyl cover looks beyond incredible, like Lucas with the lid off incredible. Its like off the hook but on a whole different level.

WTWB at the Ukie

Yep, word on the streets with the over capacity and whatnot of last month, the March White T's White Belts will be at the Ukie of Hollertronix fame. There will be a special surprise guest, $4 Obolons.

Meanwhile the record is selling out of control at Turntable Lab. It hit #4 in 4 days and completely sold out or would have easily hit #1. Not to worry though, if you slept on the first batch, the Lab reupped and you can still cop it. Its $8 and features a crazy full cover pic sleeve and labels and 9 tracks.
And as a bonus, the duo just released two tracks on their MySpace.

Bass Bandits EP Out Now

The Bass Bandits EP is out now at fine record stores and available directly from Flamin Hotz. It features 6 banging bass heavy tracks from the Trouble & Bass crew out of NYC. As always, the sleeve is amazing. It has a spot gloss on it giving it an extra value to it that I haven't seen before with vinyl. Quality music, quality art. Spin it at your next dj set or just hang it on your wall.
Blending elements of hip hop, grime, dubstep, bmore club and electro, New York’s Trouble and Bass crew is set to drop a speaker shattering EP of remixes for Flamin Hotz. Drop the Lime and Math Head have selected six of the hardest club ready remixes that the the crew produced this year. These tracks have been club tested and dance floor approved all over Europe and North America and a ready to make your speakers bleed. One listen will let you know that the Bass Bandits are here and ready to destroy your sound system.
Check the audio samples below. Get Up is my favorite, the ending is killer as it transitions into a Michael Jackson sample.
A1. Drop the Lime - Dirty Ride (Slam Dunk & Phat Camp edit)
A2. L. Vis & Wully - Uptown V.I.P.
A3. Drop the Lime - Juggernut
B1. Drop the Lime (Watchin' U) - Get Up
B2. Party Crashers Unite - Ballers
B3. Math Head - Magnum (Meagaforce Edit)

Buy the EP directly from Flamin Hotz or at Turntable Lab.

As mentioned here, there will be a record release party on Saturday with Drop the Lime and Math Head alongside Dev79 and Stumble at Tritone. $3 to get down with drink specials all night.

Oh and the Inquirer picked this up as a Do This. Check it out in the Weekend insert, inside front cover son!
