Sazz Vintage Opens in Olde City

So DailyCandy is a daily email featuring cool stuff for "an affluent, influential female audience." They have local editions all over and one just for Philly and I found this one to be funny.

Last time he went out with the boys, he got thrown out of the champagne room.

Next time he wants to check out some nice racks, send him to Sazz, the newly opened men’s vintage store housed in what used to be Sailor Jerry’s Old City digs. Owner Amanda Saslow’s been hawking vintage for years, but her stock was taking over her house, so she opened up shop.

Clothing from the ’40s to the ’70s will turn the most fashion phobic guys into cravat wearing dandies. He’ll definitely want to check out the embroidered Western shirts and rockabilly gear, and pick up some buckles and hats to round out his look. They also stock bathing suits and lightweight shirts that’ll have him set for summer.

The staff is friendly enough to make him a repeat customer.

And he won’t get in trouble for groping the goods.

Sazz, 38 North Third Street (215-923-7299 or sazzvintage.com).

Fresh Melt Water

So we've mentioned Fresh Melt Water a few times on here before, most recently in the Blaqstarr - Shake it to the Ground video, and now their fall collection is out and it looks dope. By far, my favorite is the God Saves the Seeds design. Fresh Melt Water are composed of two designers who met in Philadelphia. FMW is completely founded, printed and designed by these two, no outside work, no outside printers, just FMW. Be sure to stop by Pedestrian (252 South Street) this weekend and if you pick up to FMW tees, you get a free 198Faux tee. Check their website at FreshMeltWater.com and pick up their full high res catalog here.

Plastic Little T Shirts Now Available

From Mr. Bombadillo aka Nobodys Child:
Plastic Little T-Shirts are now for sale in my ebay store. I made them, there are only a few left. Go get your grandma a present she'll never understand, but think is ooooh sooooo pretty. Maybe she might even put you back in the trust fund, because yes, these shirts are magical and can erase racism. So, for now on, whenever she dons one of these magical shirts, she'll totally accept the fact that you like to put your genitals together with those of "lesser" or "oppressive" races. Thanks to me, the world is now a better place.... you're welcome.

New RVNG T's

Brand new shirts from the RVNG crew. This is only the third shirt produced and will likely sell out quickly at $20 including shipping.
We've made a new Rvng t-shirt. You may or may not remember the Get Rad t-shirts or Mutated Men before those but they were really fucking "special". These are no exception.

The design (by Kevin, durrr) is a loose spin on the rigid "R" logo that was stamped on our foreheads fresh from the conceptual womb. It's also an homage to the budget record label logos that grace some of our favorite 7"s and 12"s. It's also fucking fresh and we don't have to sell it to you, dude. Fuck authority.

These are printed on American Apparel Poly-Cotton Short Sleeve Crew Neck t-shirts.
Pick yours up now from IGetRvng.com

Ubiq Reopened

Walking by Ubiq during the spring I'm sure you noticed that it was closed. Well now its back open and completely redesigned by renowned architect Rafael de Cardenas. Cardenas is also responsible for the aNYthing score among others in the LES and around the world.
the optically stimulating store vibrates with black-and-white patterns, intense and strategic lighting, and reflective surfaces. The back of the store holds a standout collection of men's clothing and accessories in a space designed to feel like an old Upper East Side living room. The exclusive footwear, including Ubiq's eponymous line, find special homes in bright glass cases that facilitate maximum ogling. And with an upstairs gallery that transforms into temporary pop-up shops, expect a string of exciting collaborations to come.
Pop-up shops excite me. I looked into setting up a pop-up shop and the realtor was real nervous. Hopefully in the future I can find realtors not quite so nervous. Stop by the new store and gawk and buy and pair of Dunks or AF1's or a shirt at 1509 Walnut. Check out some of Cardenas' other projects at Architecture at Large.

New arrivals for the ladies

Ladies: Deep Sleep has new threads for Mama in time for spring and summer. Check the fresh hoodie to the left and also check out this new blouse. Holla at Deep Sleep on MySpace or stop by in Old City at 54 N 3rd. St.

Meanwhile, Jackie Pepper is the proprietor of Fresh Heir “transforming the old into new” using classic vintage fabrics for fresh funky designs. Her latest design uses “vintage silk scarves with contrasting covered elastic in the back to keep your piece on straight. No bobby pins, no adjusting, no aggravation. The scarves wrap around the front of your head and each other to create a twist at the crown (a cool, unexpected detail). They’ll even stand up to errant bangs, strong winds, convertibles, and yachts.” Pick up one of each at Echochic, 1700 Sansom Street (215-569-9555). Citypaper 2007 Style Issue

This week the Citypaper published their annual style issue. Be sure to check it out online because half of the pages in the actual paper are black and white.

you won't find a more diverse crop of curiously clothed cityfolk than the amateur fashionistas who strut our crosswalks and subway platforms. Which is why we took our Style Issue straight to the streets.

We stopped strangers to chat about what they're wearing, and what their style says about them.

We pounded the pavement in Philly neighborhoods — some obvious (Old City, South Street), some not so obvious (the Great Northeast, West Philly) — for the best spring and summer finds.

We shopped for girl sneakers, funky hats, T-shirts, sharp specs and wacky nails.

We even asked local makeup artists to use faces like canvas to represent the 'hoods that most inspire them.

Here's hoping they inspire you.

Link, For more street fashion be sure to check out Broad&Market.

New shirts from Moonblood

MoonblooD has just released their newest line of tees featuring super hero styling for both men and women. The prints feature intricate details and are created by a couple who currently live in No. Libs.
Created in early 2006 by soon-to-be-wed Amy Eldon and Leo Voloshin, MoonblooD is a men's and women's t-shirt label. Inspired by the couple's love of tribal textiles and travel, the line exhibits a wintered and worn aesthetic fusing intricate, hand-drawn graphics on hand-dyed shirts.

From Cool Hunting:
Not unlike their first collection of Egyptian-inspired motifs and Native American imagery, the result is a modern tribal look that takes the tee beyond predictable centered-graphic designs.

The tees start at $38 and include shipping anywhere in the US and Canada.

In her spare time Amy also runs the fashion blog Seamsters commenting on the latest fashion news and trends. This week features guest blogger Ann Marie commenting on NY Fashion Week. (Philly, when are you going to have a fashion week?)

The Love Movement at Threadless

The Love Movement is an incredible art collective originally based out of Philly but now in LA still loving and representing Philly always. Check out what Ropeadope has to say:
Trippin through Philly I picked up on the scent of The Love Movement - one of the city's more prolific and creative coalitions. With love as the backbone, and social awareness as the neckbone, art & design take over as the weapons of choice. Dropping bits and pieces of objects in the community that beautifies and educates. An idea worth emulating.
Their main social awareness project right now has to deal
TLM currently has three tee shirts up on Threadless for you to vote on. Check 'em out as they're killer. My personal favorites are the one above and this one asking the all important question, "What if Saddam Skated?"

All money from the Darfur shirt will go to benefit the efforts with SaveDarfur.org. Click now to sign the pledge.

Additionally, all sales from The Love Movement art go to a village in the West African nation of Benin. Their most recent project was to build a well.

Vote now for With Our Two Hands, Save Darfur, What if Saddam Skated? and NBA or Art?

Cassete Playa

Words cannot describe this. Long live acid rave.

I think this is some sort of fashion company that takes their inspiration from 1992 acid back when drum n bass was hardcore and Storm was taking over NYC. Clearly with the influx of ugly colorful clothes, I can see this being the next hot line. Sadly its only available in London, Tokyo and Paris.

Music by shitmat. Cassete Playa website and their myspace. (via A Silent Flute)
