Nothing Fancy Is Back

Nothing Fancy Volume 8 is now up. This version focuses on collections with 24 different artists and a musician. Also featured S P Lunny aka the director of Baby Rat and Bangers and Cash - Pussy. Be sure to check it out, some great stuff in there. Also, really cool is "Real Art Love Letters" from Jeremy Gecker. Following the rabbit hole I stumbled upon Mailbox Friends. All in all, good stuff.

Looking for New Writers

One man band courtesy of Spinal Connection
So as you may have noticed I'm pretty much a one man band here. Seg and Tom Jonze are nearly nonexistent, Casi G pops up once a week and Pedestrian has been busy with real world moves trying to post there and their own blog, therefore we are looking for new writers to post regularly on topics we don't have time or resources to post about. Specific topics include the indie rock scene and someone dedicated to fashion. Current offers include free mp3s, Facebook gifts, Internet high fives, free entry to shows and possibly actual monetary compensation. Please send samples of your work along with preferred topic to 5151List @ GMail . com with the subject "I can has job?" I will totally be cool if I receive no worthy responses knowing the fact that I found such an incredible website.

  • The above photo is Beth Dubber's entry into the summer edition of the Hey, Hot Shot! emerging photographer competition. Contenders are featured on the H,HS! blog and winners will be in an exhibition opening September 5th. All entries must be received by August 7th. Apply here.
  • Kameraflage takes "advantage of the fact that digital cameras see a broader spectrum of light (i.e they see more colors) than human eyes" resulting in clothing designs that only show up when photographed. Not quite the emperor's new clothes though. More info (via Cool Hunting)

Puppies Are Biodegradable

FUEL is planning a rather bold, in-your-face like exhibition for the month of July. The exhibition is entitled "Puppies are Biodegradable" -- in few words, the mission is to raise awareness of the cruelty and harsh realities of puppy mills, specifically in Lancaster, PA. Not sure if you are aware of the fact that over 400 puppy mills exist in this small amish town. We are asking artists to submit work/s in response to this issue. $$Cash prizes are available and a portion of the artwork sales will be donated to helping the cause.

Please visit www.puppiesarebiodegradable.com for more information and how to submit your work.

Space 1026: Kingdom of Magical Extinctionss

This Sunday!

The long-standing Space 1026 tradition, which has been in hiatus since 2003, re-emerges with their 2007 Food Show: Kingdom of Magical Extinctions!

Date: Sunday, April 1st, 2007
Time: 6 pm
Where: Space 1026, 1026 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA

In the spirit of a vegetarian chinese restaurant, whose menus are still broken down into categories such as "mock chicken" and "mock beef" at the Kingdom of Magical Extinctions all are invited to participate by making a magical or extinct creature out of food, for display and/or consumption. "Mock Unicorn," "Mock Smurf" "Mock Pterydactyl Wings with Chefs Special Sauce"; the possibilities are endless!

Those interested in preparing dishes for the event are asked to email cperkins[at]space1026.com so she can add your creation to the "menu". And everyone is welcome to experience the spectacular spectacle that awaits!

The Space asks those not contributing a piece to the show to donate 5$ to help cover the costs of the event. Proceeds from the will go towards the on-going development of the Space 1026 Mummers brigade – The Vaudevillains.
