Tonight: Sweatheart at the Barbary

You see that right there? Thats Amanda Blank ready to rip your nuts out with her perfectly pink manicured nails. You better hope they're not Lee Press ons either or else they'll probably just come off and then they would be stuck in there like a sliver that just keeps on giving. Thats right folks, Sweatheart performs at the Barbary tonight with the Doyle and Jacci Stallone. It's $5 and you can totally get Colt 45 pounders for like $2. Go ahead and click on Sweatheart below and watch some of their awesome videos. I'm totally going to put on some Winger...

NY Times: Hip-Hop’s Newest Faces: Indie, Fierce and Female

Santi, Amanda and Rose on the set of B.O.O.T.A.Y

The NY Times profiled the new crop of female MC's this past weekend, many of which we've been covering for awhile, including Amanda Blank, Santogold, Kid Sister and Yo Majesty (playing this Friday at 4am, guestlist here).
But in the wake of the critical favorite M.I.A., a new crop of young, multicultural, female hip-hop acts is causing a stir on the Internet and in indie-label conference rooms.
There’s Kid Sister, a cheeky, charismatic rapper from Chicago who recently released a video featuring Kanye West; Amanda Blank, a nasty-mouthed M.C. from Philadelphia who is associated with the hipster male hip-hopper Spank Rock; and Santogold, a new-wavey singer and dub-style rapper from Brooklyn who toured with Bjork last fall.
Holla! This is going to be a huge year for these three girls as all three expect to release albums this year. The only qualm I have is that they say Santi is from Brooklyn. They later go on to correct themselves and say that Santi is "now living in Brooklyn" but don't mention that she is from Philly.

8 for '08 from the Inquirer

The Inquirer just released their Spring music announcing 8 in '08 to watch out for and it features some of our favorites on the list including the power couple above.
The YMD: set for the spring release of the hilarious Excuse Me, This Is the Yah Mos Def on Princeton's My Pal God records.
Santogold: Santogold, her self-titled debut, comes out in April.
Nouveau Riche: A new EP is due next month, and a full-length by year's end. They play Silk City, with TuPhace, on Feb. 12.
Diplo: putting the finishing touches on a Brazilian music movie called Favela on Blast that dazzles even as a work in progress. He's got a solo album coming with vocal tracks from artists as varied as Cat Power and rapper Bun B, and a reggae dancehall album with British DJ Switch. And, oh yeah, he's spinning on the MySpace tour as the opening act for Justice, at the Electric Factory March 10.
Spank Rock and Amanda Blank: both will have albums out on the Downtown label.
Philly is doing it real big in '08.

N.A.S.A. Ft RZA MIA AMANDA BLANK SANTOGOLD SPANKROCK GEORGE CLINTON

I try to stay away from excessive youtube postings since I can't watch this shit at work but I just saw this promo thing for North American South American were these dudes got all these fucking pretty cool artists together to make music. Some of the stuff sounds like its gonna be wack, like dope on paper but wack cause the executive producers are on some super West Coast Hip Hop shit. But then some of those tracks sounded really fucking incredible. Like that shit with Amanda Blank and Sizzla.

Shit could be EPIC.

N.A.S.A on myspace, I added them.

keep abreast on this shit. Over 4 1/2 years these dudes look like they have collected some serious heat.

Spank Rock and Benny Blanco are: Bangers and Cash feat. Amanda Blank - Loose (video very NSFW)

Where as all yall were hoping to see booties in B.O.O.T.A.Y. and it was entirely too wholesome, the gang made up for it with this one. Favorite comment so far "wow,i've never seen a porn music video this is amazing." Think Spank Rock invading a porn shoot and rapping with lots of champagne. Couple friends stop by including Brendan Bring'em, Rose from Sweatheart and Dirty South Joe. In the immortal words of Amanda Blank "These bitches is nasssttyy."

UPDATE: Imeem pulled the video down, but its up on youtube, probably not for long.

From Rcrd Lbl
We are proud as punch to unleash the video premiere of "B.O.O.T.A.Y", from Bangers & Cash, aka the twisted minds of Spank Rock and Benny Blanco. The song and video also features the talents of the lovely Illvia (of Kudu) and Santogold (of her own damn self). Directed by Jesse Engaard, known for his much-loved video for Spank Rock's "Rick Rubin"
Holla. Recognize where its shot at? Yo, so I had issues with the player (on the rcrd lbl site) where it would stop and start over if it hadn't finished loading. Hit play now, and go check your email and then come back to it. Hey, its better quality than YouTube and the video is the jump off.

New Spank Rock Interview from London

Spank Rock producers and dj's Ronnie Darko, AleXXXchange and Chris Rockswell speak with Pyro Radio (download) about their Fabriclive 33 Mix CD. If you've heard the CD or seen the track listing you may be a bit surprised.

Here's XXXchange breaking it down:
First you make a wish list of stuff, then they try and license all that stuff. about half of the requests will get turned down and another quarter will come with specific instructions (more on this later). so, if you've tried to make any kind of coherent statement with the tracks you've picked on the first round you're gonna need to compensate for all the holes on the second round of wish-listing.

to avoid unnecessary arguments and confusion I took over nearly the entire selection / licensing process on our side of things. that's probably why this mix ended up being a more electro stuff /obvious hits and less rap / obscure rock stuff than our previous mixes, just 'cause that's the way my taste runs.

some of the stuff that got turned down was really suprising, we tried to get two separate tracks by MU but apparently they deny everything on general principal. "cola bottle baby" got turned down and all kinds of other obscure shit got turned down...people who you'd figure would be clamoring over each other to get that licensing money...! justin timberlake of course got turned down but, rick ross got approved. go figure...

"owner of a lonely heart" got approved. but we weren't allowed to re-edit it in any way so, i had to hire Tyler Pope(from !!!) to come in and re-play the guitar parts for that and the justin timberlake song. we also had to make a fake version of MU's "Paris Hilton" which happens underneath the "technologic" acapella. in the end, the easiest companies to work with were the smaller, more dance oriented ones like, ed rec, institubes and, gigolo, who are actually familiar with the Fabric mix cd series.

this one is way more stretched out than the rest of our mixes, in terms of letting each track actually play for a while etc...

fabric requires you to fill 70 minutes with only about 25 tracks licensed, which means each track has to play for about 2 and a half minutes. this format, I feel, is a little bit outdated and is probably better suited to doing a compliation cd rather than a mix cd. However, since it's impossible for fabric (or scion, or whoever) to make any money off these cd's if there's more than 25 tracks lisenced, we're all stuck trying to fill that space with that amount of songs. so it's nice to pick 12"s that have the acapellas and bonus beats and all that other good shit to play around with...

so, while finishing the mix, I forgot about the 70 minute length requirement ( the other dudes were on tour by this time) and, I turned in a 54 minute one. so, they made me go back and re-do it but, were nice enough to license a few more tracks (over their normal limit) to help me fill it out.

in the end we figured out how to make it work but left the experience ready to do another "fun" ( apparently now also illegal) mixtape as soon as possible
Go check out XXXchange website and listen to "Get It Now featuring Amanda Blank" and buy the digital single.

Plastic Little, Bonde Do Role & Danger! Danger!

I am pleased to report that the Plastic Little video shoot was a blast. Running around in an old hospital is the jump off. Meanwhile there was choreographed dancing, a bit of nudity, pink nurses, lager and even calculus homework. Talking to Max from Free News Projects, he let me know that the video will be ready for release when it hits Japan and he mentioned that the ultimate goal is to have a video remix for each of the tracks on She's Mature. We will be sure to keep you informed of any upcoming video shoots. For now, if you haven't yet, pick up the album at your favorite music store including iTunes and eMusic. Also don't forget about The Remix of The Remix of The Remix, the Plastic Little x Turntable Lab remix contest.

Also, the real point of this post is to mention their show this Thursday at the Danger! Danger! house in West Philly Broadzilla at Upstairs at Sals. They will be playing with Bonde Do Role, Dave P, Pinkskull and more. For those of you not familiar with Danger! Danger! and the on again West Philly diy house party scene, 34th Street did a recent feature on them.
Located in a quaint residential area, the Danger! Danger! house seems unremarkable on the corner of 47th Street and Warrington Avenue. But behind the unassuming facade is one of the most popular venues of West Philly's burgeoning house show scene. The seven residents, whose history together stretches as far back as middle school, have become seasoned concert promoters. . .

Russell Brodie, unofficial house spokesman and member of in-house band Grandchildren, spearheaded this ambitious project. "I just started inviting bands that I had been hearing a lot about," Brodie said. "It was like trying to put together a regional showcase.
Tickets are only $7, show starts at 8:30 and is all ages.

If you happen to read the Philadelphia Weekly, you will have noticed Jayson Musson's (aka Pack of Rats) new column "Black Like Me". Jayson has a unique writing style and humor that usually has me laughing out loud when I pick up the paper. His humor was responsible for Plastic Little being banned in Vice (temporarily), much of the press releases for Plastic Little and the Too Black for BET series. Here is a snippet from his past column
Listen. R. Kelly can't do no types of wrong. R. Kelly can pee on a thousand little girls on their way to a thousand little Girl Scout meetings and he'll still be a saint in my eyes. If I had a daughter, I'd let him take a shot at her, maybe hoping it'd help me win the Powerball or something. “Go 'head, Kells—aim for her bigass forehead! Don't worry—I'm not going to sue you, dawg. I love you, nigga!” I mean, if Catholics eat Nilla Wafers and claim it's the body of Christ, why can't R. Kelly's piss be of spiritual significance? I'm a flirt.
Check out the first edition of Too Black for BET and his illustrations at his website. Read "Black Like Me" over at the PW, read more ramblings from Musson, Kurt, JonThousand and Amanda Blank at"Fuck Your Blog, Son" (currently NSFW) then head over to the store and choose either Too Black for BET, individual posters from TB4B II, or even receive a daily life affirming quote or haiku.

UPDATE: Plastic Little and Bonde do Role have been moved to Upstairs at Sals for currently unspecified reasons. According to the 34th Street article above, there has been a crackdown by L&I on house party venues. No current facts yet, so we can't quite blame everyones favorite fun smasher.

Plastic Little Crambodia Single

Plastic Little just released the Crambodia single record. Its available over at Turntable Lab.
Not only will the instrumental for "Crambodia(1)" help you gear up for the upcoming TTLab-sponsored Plastic Little remix project (shhhh…), but this single version also includes a guest spot from Spank Rock, as well as Ghostface and Amanda Blank, who were included on the album version. The beat is nice anyway, so it doesn't really matter who's on the track… okay, it does matter who's on the track, 'cause if Ghostface cosigns Plastic Little, shouldn't you give 'em a chance too? The man knows what he's talking about. Anyway, in addition to the dirty, clean and instrumental versions for "Crambodia," you also get dirty and clean versions of two album tracks: the dope, Cure-sampling (double shhh…) King Honey remix of "Get Close(2)" and the retro-futuristic space beatage of "Holla Plastique(3)."

TTLab-sponsored Plastic Little remix project??? Will find out more direct from the source. Holla at TTLab, listen to the 3 tracks they posted up and cop that for $7.

Plastic Little Video Shoot Tomorrow

Direct from a PaperStreet MySpace bulletin.
Plastic Little has got that new crack and they wanna share it. They are busy shooting their new video and there's thing in it that we in the bizness call a "club scene". I know, it's just some techincal jargon...but I'll explain it to you.
It's a scene which takes place in a club.
Got it?
Wanna be in it?
This Saturday, like tomorrow, be at Medusa at 20th & Chestnut Street at 4pm.

You'll just be an extra or something, but when they start showing the thing on MTV2 and you're all wasted you can grab your cat and be like , "Oh shit look!!".

Don't know what to wear? The esteemed video directors said something to the effect of, "Look fresh". If you don't know what fresh looks like, go google image it.
Shes Mature out now. Pick it up here with Too Black for BET, the Picture Disc or a just a single.

Spank Rock the Troc

What an amazing show. Spank Rock and friends absolutely killed it. There was so much energy and so much quality music all in one venue. This should be the new traveling festival. Spank Rock and friends coming to a town near you to find all the Backyard Bettys, Bumping the speakers with plenty of bass.

Nouveau Riche opened up the show with a 25 minute set early in the night. You can check one of their live tracks at the bottom if you missed it. Contra, MIA's tour DJ, was up next playing plenty of booty shaking jams to get everyone hype for the rest of the night. Juiceboxxx was the first live performer and really set the tone for the night. His set was incredible. Straight out of Wisconsin, Juiceboxxx covered more square footage the rest of the night. He was on stage. He was in the crowd. He was at the back of the crowd. He climbed up the speakers and on to the balcony. He was everywhere. At the end he had everyone lay down and then jumped back up when the song banged again. This kid has so much heart and energy it was amazing.

Up next was Plastic Little. Jon Thousand, NBC and Pack of Rats kept things going as they normally do. Highlights include: Stunna glasses from CVS, Pack of Rats rolling around both stages, Driz Hollering and handing out beer to the crowd, Pack of Rats pouring a beer on his head and then singing the Whole New World section of Driz Hollering, using 3 mics at a time because 1 is never enough, Rats affection for Squid and all the usual P.Little antics. Sadly there was no Ghostface appearance but the album will be out as soon as they stop adding and tweaking tracks.

Tittsworth came on immediately after to keep the crowd bouncing with that Bmore club. The place was packed and wilding out and ready for Spank Rock. XXXchange stepped on stage and started setting up. Devlin and Darko stepped up and continued where Tittsworth left off. The drums from Love Peace Project started and the crowd cheered as Cool MC Disco Spank Rock stepped on stage. Far Left to What it Look Like, Chilly Will, Rick Rubin and more. The crowd sang and danced along to their favorite Spank Rock songs. BBC did their thing on the decks. Pase Rock kept things moving along. Next track to come along was Bump and out from the back came Amanda Blank to do her verse along with Rose from Sweatheart. The crowd went absolutely crazy when they came out and took over the stage. Classic Amanda Blank straight killing at and making the crowd go nuts. Amanda's disco ball boots were crazy as well, straight blinding me before she got on stage. After her verse, since Spankro put her on blast she called out Plastic Little to do Now I Holler. P. Little was hyped, bringing out their PBR and spitting their verses alongside Spank. The lower stage turned into a rowdy moshpit of P. Little, Rose, Amanda, Pase and Spank Rock. Darko came out next on the mic singing "Ass Titties Funky Ass and Titties" alongside Pase Rock which they modified from an old Five Deez song. Race Riot on the DanceFloor (Shake it til My Dick Turns Racist) absolutely kills everytime they play it and this was no exception. The lower stage turned into a dance floor as Spank Rock finished.

Deluxxx came up next and had a short set to segway into the godfather of Bmore club Rod Lee. Lee brought nothing but heat and brought out Spank Rock for a freestyle session. 2:30 the lights came on and the night was over. Shout out to Paper Street with support from Simplefly for putting the show on. dMarie Groundscore took 45 mins of footage and plenty of pictures and should have them up soon. Anthem Magazine had a photographer there so watch out for that. If you have pics or videos hit us up: 5151List@gmail.com

Awesomness Renovations

Damn, when Jayson Musson mentioned some "some last minute awesomeness renovations" on Plastic Little's Shes Mature I never knew it would be this big. Direct from the Fader blog and Nick Catchdubs:
what else was left to be done? Get a Ghostface verse, of course. Freshly recorded She's Mature track "Crambodia" will feature the Wally Champ spitting alongside Plastic Little and pals Spankrock and Amanda Blank.

All I Wanna Do is Disco Dance With You

I need to learn more French because Fluo Kids has so much quality music they release. Teki Latex of French group TTC leads off with his debut single "Disco Dance With You". This incredibly infectious rhythm makes me want to get up and start dancing here at work regardless of odd stares from coworkers. I just may be partial to songs about dancing, yet what really puts this over the top is the remix from Spank Rock and Amanda Blank. Amanda's silky smooth hook makes my spine tingle. Spank Rock kills his verse with "Now you're moving to it all sweaty like it was Hollertronix and shit". Amanda's verse is top notch like we've all come to expect.

The single is out July 17th I believe on Arcade Mode and possibly Turntable Lab as well.

Disco D and Trick Daddy Collabo

I just received this from Disco D about that banging Trick Daddy track he played last Sunday.
Hey guys,

I received a call today from Craig Kallman, the CEO and Chairman of Atlantic Records, the consequences of which will change rap, pop and electronic music forever. They have decided that "I Pop", a song I produced, will be the first single off of Trick Daddy's upcoming album to be released this fall. He is coming to my studio on Monday to mix the record.

If I could describe the record in words: 110 BPM ghettotech / acid house with Trick Daddy returning to 'Shut Up' / 'Nann' / 'Scarred' days. In 2 words: The Shit.

A Haiku:

Trick Daddy's 'I Pop'
The biggest beat that I wrote
Thus far in my life

I'm posting a snippet of the rough mix on my my space as we speak.

Bless

P.S. I have a show in Amsterdam tomorrow night

P.P.S. After Craig Kallman was done talking to me about Trick Daddy, he spent the next 20 minutes asking me questions about Spankrock and Amanda Blank

Whoa! (like Joey) Spank Rock and Ms Blank are certifiably blown up. Disco D is a serious tease but he did throw up a snippet of 'I Pop' on his myspace

    What It Look Like

Shotguns, Beast, PBR & 95. Rolling to Baltimore on a party bus for the Spank Rock CD release party at the Ottobar. Whats that smell? Lighters clicking, cantabs popping and a wealth of converstaions meld together. A haze takes over the bus and I don't even think we're out of PA yet. Rinse and repeat for the next hour and a half. Throw in some Champagne, wine, cheese and more lighters clicking for good measure. We know we're close when the radio station has Baltimore club hour playing. Add some impromptu dancing, lots of camera flashes and time speeds up to the point where we're already there.

Its only 9:30 and Philly has just taken over the Ottobar. I mean seriously, who goes out to the club so early? If all of the alcohol on the bus wasn't enough, its free Natty Boh til 11 along with free Sparks for good measure. The club starts to fill up. Local Baltmoreans seem surprised that there are so many people already here and have already drank so much. Upstairs there are pool tables and backgammon. Head back downstairs and The Love Peace Project comes on. They have an impressive stage show with multiple MCs, bongos, bass, drums, dancers and more.

The crowd is in a frenzy and Spank Rock comes on. The energy in the place is almost palpable. Spankro goes through track after track as the crowd is dancing and singing along. Amanda Blank and Rose make a special guest appearance which pushes the crowd over the edge. From Bump to What it Look Like to Top Billing and more the crowd can't get enough. Time flies by and Spankrock finish their last song. The BBC DJs, Devlin, Darko, Chipset and Karl Hungus keep the crowd rocking as they take over the stage.

Amazingly its already 2 and the club empties out. We head back to the bus for the ride back to Philly. Cool MC Disco Spankrock stops by to say goodbye. The bus seems emptier than it was on the way there but no one says we're missing anybody so we head out. The bus is far more reserved as some pass out and some chill out.

The next day we find out a certain Philadelphian in a tux seems to have passed out, missed the bus and woke up at the Ottobar at 6 in the morning. The bus driver cleaned the bus from the ride down at the bar, then cleaned it again back here in Philly and it still had to go to cleaning service since the smell of smoke and beer was so bad. Needless to say, he said the smell of alcohol and smoke was overpowering there and back.

    I aint Never Scared

What time is it? Looking around at phones, computers and clocks with conflicting times. Regardless its late and I just woke up. Aww shit, Snap or Die. Throw that in the cd player and lets go. Bouncing in my chair trying to remember the whole night. Looking around I see remnants: broken CD case, tattered flyers, battle wounds, aww shit audio posts, random scribblings and a whole snap load of pictures. Lets start from the beginning.

Last night started early and sober with the Big Art Show. Over 80 artists and a couple bands playing. Highlights include Nose, Isaac Bushkin, Jesse Rinyu, Jude Buffum and the Labold Brothers Ink with some dope shirts. There were definitely others as well that I didn't write down. Oh and this sculpture. Ok, enough of this sober art stuff.

Fast forward to Popatronix (for the seeeeds!) aka Metro and there is a line to get in. Steven Bloodbath on the tables. What up Emynd? Lager and Jameson special on blast. Head to the back of the club to go upstairs and there is a line! Whoa, I knew tonight was going to be crazy but wow. Around the line and we're upstairs Leanin wit it, rockin wit it. Brendan, Low B and Diplo tag teaming on the decks. Dance floor is packed and going crazy. Deluxxx is there and hits me off with the Snap or Die mixtape that I'm blasting now. Lix is doing his thing on the mic making sure the crowd stays hype. Bo Bliz in the place and hits me off with some flyers for White Tees White Belts this Friday sans Emynd but with special guest Deluxxx. Everybody's favorite Soul Travelers Q and Joy are gettin down on the dance floor, stage and speakers. MC Cool Disco Spankrock is here on some downtime before his tour to support Yoyoyoyoyoyo. Tommy Up rolls in with Junior Sanchez and friends. I talk to Josh who happens to be a loyal reader of 51:51. Hes been downloading tracks from More Bounce for awhile now and playing them at all the cool hipster parties in NYC. At first they're stunned but then they figure it out and can dance to it. Meanwhile Never Scared comes on and the whole place goes crazy. The dance floor turns into a moshpit and the crowd chants "I AINT NEVER SCARED". Afterwards I head to get a drink and run into Cullen Stalin from Baltimore celebrating his birthday. Its nearly 2, well 3, and the party is only half done.

Listen to the energy in the audio post from Lix. Next up is your girl Q. Needless to say last night was huge and Brendan was seriously hyped

Lights on, music off. I check my phone and its says 3:21. Wow, that late already? Oh right, daylight savings time. We're out and head to Transit for the afterparty along with the rest of Metro. Another line waiting to get in. We're in. John Redden is on the main floor. I head downstairs and King Britt is doing his thing with those smooth grooves. This is a nice change of pace for a minute but I still have "Never Scared" silently playing so I head up to the attic. Oxy Cottontail is on and provides the real soundtrack. Ultraviolet is up next along with Amanda Blank and Rose from Sweatheart. The crowd is in a frenzy as the girls are the Queens of the room right now. The energy in the air is unstoppable. These points are exactly why we go out. Nothing else matters. You're dancing you're ass off with good music in the background along with a couple hundred of your closest friends. These points recharge you and get you past whatever difficulties you've had or will have. Back to the club and Amanda finishes so I head downstairs to check out the rest of the club. Junior Sanchez is on and rocking the main floor with that dirtyelectrohouse. Back to the basement and Britt is rocking the crowd with block rocking beats. A circle forms and the breakers do their thing with spins, footwork and more. Back to the attic and Bliz is ready to go on but the lights come on. Party is over and my phone says its only 5 something. We head outside to go home and there are a number of cops outside. There is typical standing around, trying to figure out where we're going to go now. This is all interrupted though by a rather rude cop who seems to have a Napoleon complex. Calm down man. Fine, we'll move just chill out.

Its so nice out that I decide to walk home. On the way Casi G runs into someone he knows coming out of a house party. So after successfully catching the cat who was trying to escape, we head upstairs. Typical house party at 5 am. Lots of drunk people sitting around. Apparently there was a toga party at some point. Surprisingly there is still a lot of alcohol. Someone brought Cristal Aguardiente. Its from Colombia and is the South American version of Sambuca. At some point we finally decide to stumble home. Its light out and it seems like we should go to sleep so that we actually get up at a decent time. So much for that.

Check out the pictures. Trig also took some pictures. Angelo was at Transit and posted his as well. Possibly more coming soon.

    Get um girl

Wow, stewardesses, bad girls being good, fashionistas, rappers, fashion designers, calendar girls and all the girls on the dance floor. It was ladies night last night and not a moment too soon. If you missed out, here is your next chance.

Last night was jampacked with events and unfortunately we only made it to two. Let us know if you have pictures from Stoya at Waxbar, or Absolute Beginners as we maximized our dancing time last night. First off we headed to Fluid for the Freak 1 year anniversary party. Jon Gill, WallyC and Deadboy provided the beats, Zeit Und Raum provided the fashion and Media Giant had the usual amzinging visuals. You may remember Zeit und Raum from Pleasuretown in October. Freak is their main party and last night they had 11 models showcasing the highlights of the past year. The models looked stunning with their creative and themed outfits which debuted at their monthly parties over the past year. Next Freak is a nurses party with Let Me Ride and Vesago at Transit. Oh and Miss December let me know about an all night party in two weeks. Keep posted for more info.

After pulling ourselves from Fluid we headed to the Khyber Upstairs for the Straight Dope with Meddafore and Seclusiasis. The place was packed as the dancefloor was going crazy while the dj's dropped heat like Dipset, Amanda Blank, Dizee Rascal and that super soaker track at the end of the night which had all the ladies twerkin it.

Check out all of our pics here. A fellow flickrite was at Freak the whole night and has more pics from the night. You may remember his pictures of Stoya designs from Pleasuretown.
