Gang Starr – Mass Appeal
After an extended battle with cancer, Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal aka GURU has passed away. Sadly, as it was when news first broke that he fell into a coma, a questionable letter came out, supposedly written by Guru. Very doubtful. Read it here, or just skip past and celebrate the legacy of Guru and Gangstarr with 15 videos after the jump. Leave your favorite album and track(s) in the comments. So many to choose from.
UPDATE: As expected, the family has released a statement that GURU has been in a coma since February and never wrote that letter.
Chilly B from Newcleus passed away this week due to complications from a stroke at the age of 47.
Chilly B’s signature moments were his classic verse from “Jam On It”, his funky bass guitar licks from “Jam On Revenge (The Wikki Wikki Song)”, and his booming deep vocal and sizzling synthesizer solo from “Computer Age (Push The Button)”.
In recent years he was involved in independent production, including working on a new Newcleus album, and touring with Newcleus.

I’ve written and rewritten this post I don’t know how many times since Monday, wanting to post this before I posted anything else.
The picture above eventually came through twitpic that night. AM was supposed to play at his residency at Rain in the Palms in Las Vegas Friday night. At Dusk, a club he co-owned in Atlantic City, they closed for the night in honor of his memory. AM had only recently spun at Dusk on Tuesday the 26th and the previous Saturday. Sadly, I never had the chance to see him play. Last time I was close to see him was last December at the Borgata. Stretch, Jeff and Kid Capri played in one club while AM played at Mur Mur. The line for Mur Mur was ridiculously long at 10PM. Meanwhile the other club wasn’t nearly as packed until later. The only other time I saw him was nearly 3 years ago to the day. AM was booked to play at McFaddens. After his set he came over to the, short lived, Social Club where Cosmo Baker and Catchdubs were playing. Needless to say, he was one of the greatest DJ’s ever. His skills likely surpassed and definitely impressed your favorite DJ. Lets just let the skills speak for themselves. After the jump there are hours of live mixes to download and listen to.

Stop by their office today and sign the giant card laid out in front of their office at Broad and Spruce. Then at 5:30, moonwalk down Broad Street in honor of the King of Pop.
It’s March 9th. We didn’t forget. It’s been 12 years since The Notorious BIG passed away. Check the post we did 2 years ago for the 10 year anniversary.
