Sad to think that a year ago I was celebrating Carnaval in Rio and this year it’s nothing but a raw February day. Still, there is some samba for your soul in Braziladelphia –

- Alô Brasil! at WXPN World Cafe Live, Saturday February 21st, dinner show at 7:30 pm and Carnaval dance party at 10:30 pm, 31st and Walnut, tickets vary.
The Inky article about PhilaSamba quotes the Brazilian troupe as noting some parallels between Brazil and Philly’s own parade traditions: “Mummery is very similar to the revelry and costume-making and music and partying in Brazil.”
Now if only the fancy brigades could grow some tits and start looking like sambistas . . .
