From the Hypercage DJ’s Pink Skull, Adam Sparkles and Broadzilla
THE HYPERCAGE RECORD CLUB — Limited Egyptian/Ancient Edition hyperplates containing 9,000 years of newwavehouse, nowavedisco, electro, acidrain, and sparklemotion, selected and mixed by Hypercage residents Pink Skull, Adam Sparkles, and the Broadzilla DJs in the New Jack Shitty of Brotherly Love.
Making Time residents freak out on all 3 levels of the Barbary this Saturday. Dave P and Dave Pak and Mike Z of Sorted haunt the first floor. Rocktits scare the night away with “heavy black “vinyl” cosmic rock riffs from the wizards sleeve”. And on the 13th floor, it’s the attic hyperkillercage with Adam Sparkles, Pink Skull and Broadzilla.
To make it extra scary, NoseGo will be outfitting the whole place with monsters and things that go bump in the night. If you haven’t had your blood drained by 2 AM, it’s the official afterparty at The Ox. $10 for The Barbary and free at the Ox or $10 at the Ox without a Making Time wristband.
Well as I’m sure you’ve heard there is a massive (3000 tickets) party at the Naval Yard with LCD Soundsystem. Tickets are sold out and going for $50 per on Craigslist. A couple notes about tonight.
1)Friday’s Making Time is FREE and is open to those without tickets after LCD Soundsystem’s performance. The doors re-open to the public, including those of you without tickets, for FREE at 12:30am !!!
YES!!! Making Time w/ LCD Soundsystem is FREE and open to non ticket holders after 12:30am.
LCD Soundsystem are performing at 11pm. After their set is finished at 12:30am there is still more radness to be had at Making Time until 3am so we’re reopening the doors to all of you who did not get tickets after 12:30am for FREE. So….after you listen to the LCD Soundsystem performance on 88.5 XPN you can take a cab, train or boat…..or the FREE Shuttle Buses we’re providing from PYT and Broad and Washington.
2) Passengers can board the shuttle buses at the following locations: The back entrance of PYT (1050 North Hancock Street behind the Piazza in Northern Liberties) or the intersection of Washington and Broad Sts (NW corner). You must have a ticket in hand to board the shuttle buses (so show it to the staff member working it or they wont let you board!). For those of you who purchased online via Ticketmaster please print out ticket confirmation. The buses will run from 6pm to 4am in continuous loops approximately every half hour between the pickup locations listed and the Navy Yard.
3) For those who are 21 or older and would like to drink alcohol – please bring your ID. You will be wristbanded and permitted to purchase alcohol once you are inside the venue. No outside alcohol will be allowed inside the venue (aka you can not BYOB). We advise you to prepare and bring CASH with you to the event. There will be limited ATMs and what will likely be long lines to access it. So save a step and bring cash with you. Trust us on this one! There will be no re-entry until LCD Soundsystem has finished performing live at 12:30am. Re-entry will be limited to those who have a wristband. So yes, if you are under age you will not be permitted to re-enter the building. Sorry! There will be a designated “smokers area” inside the venue where you can smoke the night away. The show is taking place INDOORS. This is not an outside/outdoor concert. This is like a usual Making Time. So there will be multiple rooms with DJs playing before and after the bands. DJs will be playing until 3am. Drinks will stopped being served at 2am and all alcohol will be removed from the dance floor at 2:30am. So make sure to drink up before then (otherwise we have to take it from you which is never a fun time).
4)The Afterparty is FREE for ticket holders and $10 for those without tickets.

Tonight, Dutch producer Afrojack graces the decks at Voyeur with Dave P and Sammy Slice for the beginning of his first American tour. Afrojack has had a huge run of hits in the past year and was the hit of the Winter Music Conference. He had a hand in Major Lazer’s Pon De Floor as well as his own production with Ghettoblaster, Louder Than Words, Pacha on Acid and a ton of remixes. Needless to say, this 22 year old is hitting the sweet spot with his banging Dutch House. Voyeur is only $5 tonight if you mention Dave P or Sammy Slice at the door. Check the event out on Facebook.
In related Dave P news, he just announced that Sleigh Bells will be headlining Making Time at The Bamboo Bar on July 4th as well as The Rapture with Holy Ghost in two weeks on June 25th. Making Time also released a mixtape to celebrate their 10 year anniversary entitled Live From the Hypercage. I’ve finally got around to uploading it so take a listen and download below.
It’s a Making Time weekend with Yacht and a secret special guest that rhymes with “Grey Hells” at Voyeur tonight. However, the event I’m really excited about is Saturday, The Making Time Warehouse Project with Simian Mobile Disco. Venue details will be announced tonight at Making Time. If you attend tonight’s Making Time you will receive a ticket for $5 entry to SMD tomorrow, otherwise it’s $13 at the door.
This Friday, head to the newly remodeled and renamed Pure for Making Time at Voyeur. Dave P and co are bringing in The XX from London and the Phenomenal Handclap Band from Brooklyn. Here’s Dave P’s take on The XX
Basically my favorite band of 2009. I’ve been listening to the xx record on repeat for the past 3 months. If you don’t know who they are…..you should. The world is a better place because of the music of the xx. Come see this band before they become the biggest band in the world.
When Dave P christens you as his favorite band, you must be doing something right. As always its a Rocktits event in the basement with Joel Nez, Russ Alexander and Steve Vena. In the Hypercage, its Adam Sparkles, Pink Skull and Broadzilla. Dave P, Dave Pak and Mike Z will be raddening the main dance floor in between sets. Tickets are only $10 advanced at Last Drop (1300 Pine Street) and Tequila Sunrise Records (525 W Girard) or $12 at the door. Be sure to get there early for the open bar of PBR & Sparks from 9 – 11. After the jump, check out two videos for The XX and one for Phenomenal Handclap. (more…)
Klip Collective just made this totally awesome promo film for the Making Time freakout on Halloween this Saturday at 2424 Studios. This starts out as a sequel to the Making Time Pool Party video they made. Cameos include zombie Diplo and MIA and Spank Rock as Michael Jackson in Thriller. Needless to say this party is going to be totally rad with the amazing performance from Simian Mobile Disco. Tickets are $25 but that includes an open bar all night! Advanced tickets are available at AKA Music (2nd and Market) and at the Last Drop (13th and Pine). Flyer and full details after the jump (more…)
Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! It’s the Making Time Pool Party at the Bamboo Bar (yes that Bamboo bar at the Roxxy) with !!! and all the regulars. Hopefully, unlike the video, there will be more than just bros hanging out. Lol.
Sunday September 6th, 2009 (the Day Before Labor Day)
Back once again with the ill behavior (which is why we can’t use the airplane pool) and a new location…….
@ Bamboo Bar
927 Delaware Ave (below Frankford/around the corner from The Barbary)
Some things only happen once in a lifetime. Sadly, as a result of the totally extreme radness that occurs at every Making Time party, that is the case for the Making Time Pool Party at the Flying W Pool and Resort. The management of the Flying W have decided that our radness is just too much for their family establishment and unfortunately, as a result, the Making Time Pool Party…The Sequel…will not be happening at the Flying W. I guess we are just way too rad for New Jersey.
So…Yes…If you were lucky enough to experience the radness of the 1st Making Time Pool Party at the Flying W Pool and Resort this past June….you experienced a once in a lifetime rager that will surely go down in history.
I was very saddened by the news after speaking with the management of the Flying W. I was very excited, as I’m sure you were as well, to experience the magic of the Making Time Pool Party at the Flying W once again on Sunday September 6th, 2009. To add to my disappointment, the news from the Flying W came just a few days after we had booked a very special live guest to play at this final outdoor rager of the summer. I felt that all that we worked for and all that we looked forward to all summer long was gone, in the blink of an eye….sucked up with the waters of the Flying W Pool that was drained after the last pool party because it was full of the remnants of an all day rager. Well….I was wrong and little did I know…the magic was just about to begin.
After a week of scouring the Philadelphia area for pools to move the party to, I found nothing and began to consider the unthinkable….canceling the final Making Time Pool Party of 2009. I’m sure you can imagine my frustration, my disappointment and my sadness.
Well…that was until Sunday August 16th, 2009 when I was exposed to one of the most magical places in Philadelphia…..Bamboo Bar.
Yes….that place that you sometimes pass on your way to The Barbary on Delaware Ave.
Yes….behind that yellow façade and behind the tiki torches and fake palms lies one of the most magical places I have ever witnessed in Philadelphia.
On Sunday August 16th, 2009 I was invited to DJ a daytime party at Bamboo Bar. I was skeptical of what it would be like but I was hopeful that it would be a rad time.
Little did I know that I was about to experience something very magical and I was about to discover the place I had been looking for for the Making Time Pool Party….The Sequel…for so long. Upon walking into Bamboo Bar I not only realized I was in one of the most amazing outdoor spaces in Philadelphia, fully equipped with a POOL (YES…A POOL!!! A small pool but YES!!! A POOL), waterfalls, multiple decks, wooden bridges, beach volleyball courts, a full outdoor dancefloor, more tiki torches and palm trees than an Ibiza resort, fishbowl margaritas and mojitos, a full grilling area and YES…an amazing soundsystem, but I also had a vision….
A vision of !!! (YES…chk chk chk!!!) playing live on the Bamboo Bar stage beneath a starry sky, a vision of Russ Alexander, Joel, Nez and Steve swimming naked in the waters of the Bamboo Bar pool as if they were in the waters of the Mediterranean off the coast of the South of France, of Mike Z and Dave Pak pushing their hair back beneath the slowly descending waters of the Bamboo Bar waterfall after taking a dip in the clear blue waters of the Bamboo Bar Pool, of KT, Thom and James barefoot in the sands of the beach volleyball court….KT ready to serve….Thom of course ready to volley and James ready to spike, of Julian double fisting two fishbowl cocktails, one margarita and one mojito, while dancing wildly on the upper deck of Bamboo Bar beneath an orange summer moon, of Adam Sparkles finding a secluded area in the shade of one of the several nooks in Bamboo Bar where he can spend some time alone, eating a traditional steak taco from the Cantina catered grill, contemplating the magical experience he has been witness to, of myself Djing in the bamboo and palm covered DJ booth as if I were Djing on the beach in Ibiza and of course of all of you freaking out like crazy people to the futuristic sounds of all of the Making Time resident DJs on the Bamboo Bar dancefloor all day and night long!!! What a wonderful vision, eh?
Well…that vision is about to become a reality, Philadelphia…YES!!! The Making Time Pool Party….The Sequel…lives on beyond the Flying W Resort and Pool. And we are back once again with the ill behavior and the magic of the inaugural Making Time Pool Party…this time on the coast of the Delaware River….this time in Philadelphia…..this time at Bamboo Bar. Let the Making Time Pool Party…The Sequel…illuminate your summer like the warm glow of the Ibiza sun. Yes, Philadelphia….it will indeed be like Ibiza out there and YES!!! Philadelphia….this will surely be the most magical, most raging and most life affirming experience of the Summer of 2009.
Let’s do this….let’s make history once again, Philadelphia….because like the Making Time Pool Party in New Jersey…this may only happen once in our lifetime.
