So like earlier this year I went to this warehouse party off of Delaware avenue and was like totally totally faded. Dev79 and Stumbul where spinning all night and shit was pretty ghettotechtastically tastical. Anywho this party is like the shit. Straight up muterhfuckers are to drugged out and banged up to do anything but stand in place and “dance” more like flap back and forth. This is another night that I had my camera and was taking all types of crazy pictures hopefully Di1 will post the ones he didn’t put up on Flicker that make that place a reality. We found this high heel shoe in the middle of the road and was taking pictures with it all night. I think their was even a time when I had a beer in the shoe as cushie and was drinking out of it.
So the main reason I was at this party till like 4:30 in the A.M. doing thangs in the bathroom with that girl who told me she wanted to dj like Hollertronix just with out the Crunk since thats corny (yeah she basically missed the whole point of hollertronix) was to see Detriots own Dj Surgeon. This dude is just an underground force in the ghettotek scene. Dudes style is just straight hard ghettotek shit. Best part is that he keeps it really old school by keeping his records bpm’d at around 135 so when you DJ his shit you have to push it up to like 145 and you keep that hot ass speed up vocals and drums sound. Just reminds me of days when I first found out about ghetto house and speeding up records to the upper 140’s instead of a lot of the tracks coming out now that start at 140.
So this is some rare ass CD I got from dude called Ghetto Tech Mixin Phase 5 Beyond Ghetto. Now what makes this mix interesting is that he does pull away from the more technoy aspect that he is know for. In this mix you are gonna get a lot of the midwest classics from Funk, Godfather and some special Surgeon blends but thats not the best part. So its kinda like that Atrack CD, lots of hip hop accepellas over ghettotech tracks and other reworks, he also has this really funny breakdown to all the sucker ass Dj’s who can’t scratch over fast records. Reminds me of the days of ISP and when Magic Mike was putting out booty records on Mo Wax with scracths over them already,not really sure how people dance to this but I guess its for all the dudes in the warehouse at 5 am. Plus this record you get to hear how ghettotech dj’s spin Baltimore club. These dudes just push the bar up to like 140 to 145 making Bmore go right back to its roots in breakbeat hardcore. Shit is fucking nasty. Its just a whole new way to interpret those records. I mean I am all into doing crazy shit with djing but I don’t think I could ever push Bmore records up that high. Surgeon drops Rod Lee’s Dance My Pain Away and it almost sounds like Rod Lee is to fat and out of breath trying to keep on beat and he has to go shoot Emily Rabitt in the butt after she picks him up from his house to drive him to the studio even though she stopped booking for him. When I first started to work in an office I always listened to music while I worked. Back in the day I used to stream online radio all day and download shit from soul seek. Then the tech dudes at my office caught me and sent an email to my boss and they shut down my internet port. So when we moved offices and they redid the computers they removed the audio card from my computer and I don’t even get to hear the Microsoft login noises and shit like that now. Which isn’t all that bad when you sneak into your desk at 9:45 on Wednesday after drinking all night and waking up in your hall way. I used to love our meetings at 10:00 in the morning when I would be getting yelled at the whole time with a stamp from the night before and my body reeking of smoke and my perspiration stinking like beer. It used to be the high light of the day when I finally sobered up enough at 1:00 to do some real work and fix all the shit I had fucked up that morning all hung over.
With so many mornings being all fucked up like this my musical interests at work have really started to change and I have rediscovered my affinity for folk music. Before I used to sit at work and listen to Juke and only listen to folk at home on the porch in my shade garden drinking organic wine but now I see its soothing pleasures while sitting in a 4×6 all day looking at computer screen wondering if the shit I do actually makes a difference in the world or in Philly. Soon my CD collection changed from loads of underground booty house/electro mixtapes, random indy rock promo CD’s, and straight fire backpack rap to Easy Listening bangers and Acoustic Folk battle breaks. (You can’t “clog” better then me, you can’t “clog” better then me. end note sadly there is no wiki on flogging which is basically this South Virginia style of clogging that is pretty dope to see live its a little quicker stylistically speaking since Southern Bluegrass got that two step heat.)
One of my most recent additions is this CD by Jenny Owens Young who blends country, folk, dirty lyrics, songs about fucking dudes and leaving them for her own personal pleasure, and all other types of craziness. She is playing tonight in Philly at the Tin Angel for $10 bucks and its gonna be the raddest show since she generally talks shit on the audience in between songs which is always a good look for an emerging folkstress singing in the city of brotherly love.
Go at 10:30 the show will be over by the time its 12:00 and you can show off your one speed to all the 30 something’s as they realize its going to be an hour and a half drive back to Doylestown.
Not sure if you guys just read that Paper Street (holy shit Dj Contra at Mojito also this city is getting some hot dj talent this weekend) blast but freaking Micky Avalon is playing from 9:00 to 9:45 sharp. Like WHOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. So what that really means is that from 10:00 to 10:45 Micky Avalon will be preforming and why would you see that when you could see Philly’s home grown folk mistress Adrien Reju playing some solo cuts at the Tin Angel. I have been pluggin this girl for a little bit but I really like her style and sounds. Plus that whole singer song writer shit is so hot in the streets these days. So get over to the Tin Angel for killer folk tracks, then we can all ride our one speeds to the Troc in a pseudo biker gang flock for Flossy D and Chromeo. Actually a folk cover of Needy Girl would be so next level.
