It’s been a year since the absolute madness of Cabide DJ, o numéro 1 do sampler do Brasil (e do mundo, thx to us!), and his U.S. tour. While she calls NYC homes as much as her native Vitória in the state of Espírito Santo, Zuzuka Poderosa will be bringing the baile spirit to The Barbary next week.
Here’s a freshy from Azu that got soundclouded my way in a bass thunderstorm earlier this week.
Cabide DJ (rememberhimlastfall?) has been busy in the studio not just cranking out MPC hits, but dabbling in some video editing. The fruits of his labors include these teasers for his new DVDs, already on sale by the bootleggers in Rio’s Uruguaiana market. Hopefully there is a picture of Casi G on the cover — he’s definitely the one hollering in the Sonar scene.
It occurs to me that I actually did most of the filming for the “DVD internacional” since Cabide was busy working his magic, but indeed that’s yours truly at the very end sporting the Phillies hat and AfroReggae shirt along with di1 and Casi G on the roof of FHZ/51:51 HQ.
I don’t know many of the MCs in his new “DVD nacional,” but I am glad to see he got the LED screen he was on the hunt for in NYC’s Chinatown. And I could be wrong, but I think he’s sporting one of the Obama Ts he picked up here.
Wanna see this pretty face live on stage Wednesday night? She’s MC Zuzuka Poderosa (that’s Zuzuka the Powerful to you), a Brooklyn/Brazil baile sensation, playing the Discoteca party at Fluid, 10 pm - 2 am, $5. And on the 1s&2s (and 3s&4s&5s, cuz y’know, MPCs got lots of buttons), it’s my man DJ Comrade of Xão Productions.
You might remember these names from by far omais legal show that Cabide DJ did during his fall tour here in the States. Here’s a brand new video of the proceedings to jog your memory.
Show brought to you by DJ Rahsaan of Afrotaino Productions who gets double credit for big upping Taíno culture (holla back pre-Columbian history) and preempting me on the best party coinage for the Illadelph. I swear I’ve wanted to throw a party called Braziladelphia since before I even moved here . . .
Spankro’ presents the Jang House tonight with Cabide DJ live on the MPC and Catcall & Sleater Brockman from Australia. Resident DJ Si Young and friends warming things up.
In case you missed it (and I think you did, I don’t remember seeing you there), here’s some video from Cabide’s performance. Watch for the part where he’s hitting the pads so fast you can’t see his fingers.
This is so ill. See it live tonight at Medusa! No cover, optional $10 open bar 10 - 12. Giveaways all night. Hip hop, bassline, miami bass and then this man going crazy!
Note: The video above and the links below relating to Melão and Melancia are probably NSFW.
Renatta Frisson aka Melão dancing to Bota o Melão Pra Quicar. Melão (cantaloupe) is a bit popular in Brazil. Another popular girl in Rio right now is Melancia or watermelon. Both Melao and Melancia are popular on stage dancers at baile funk parties and on TV. Melão and Melancia stopped traffic for a radio station promo. Check the photos here. For more photos of Melao, check them here.
Bonus:
Cabide DJ - My Neck My Back
What better track to pair with this post than Cabide’s remix of My Neck, My Back? This was released on Flamin Hotz Records’ tenth EP Funkeiros e Progresso along with 5 other banging funk songs. Funkeiros e Progresso was the teaser album, cherry picking some of the best tracks that was later released on Pancadão do Morro. Pick up Funkeiros e Progresso at the Flamin Hotz store and the CD up worldwide. Catch Cabide on tour now, making his first appearance at Medusa this Thursday. More info on his tour over at Beat Diaspora.
Cabide DJ arrived in town last night. He’ll be live on the air for Rhythms N’ Time with Oriel. The show runs from 1 - 3 with Cabide arriving at 1:30. Expect a short interview then live MPC action.
Oh snap! Its going to be like Rio in there! Cabide DJ is on tour throughout the Northeast from Boston to DC and will be stopping by at Medusa, Thursday Oct 30th. Warming up the night will be Gregzinho and Chip and Becky Soundsystem. Expect Baile funk, bassline, club, hip hop and more. Cabide brought his MPC and a gang of Miami Bass records, so expect a crazy night. Its free entry all night and at the bar there is an optional $10 all you can drink special from 10 - 12. Sadly his sampler do fogo couldn’t clear customs. Click the link for a live recording. He rigged his sampler with two flame throwers. So ill.
Here is DJ Edgar with the latest release from Flamin Hotz Funkeiros e Progresso. Unfortunately I couldn’t meet up with Edgar directly due to his hectic schedule, but I did get to meet his lovely wife in Ipanema. Anyways, I just got an email stating that DJ Edgar is no longer acting as tour DJ for Mr. Catra. He has decided to venture out on his own. He is in the process of booking a European tour in May. Holler at his booking agent here (info [at] barbrasil [dot] se). With a new tour comes new mix, so I present to you a 22 minute mix with baile funk, electro and more.
