Once again it is time for an It’s The Year party with Emynd and Bo Bliz. This time around the crew travels back to 2001 when such albums such as Discovery, Thugs Are Us, Gorillaz, Put Yo Hood Up, Miss E…So Addictive, Malpractice, Devil’s Night, The Blueprint, Toxicity, In Search Of…, Bulletproof Wallets, Even In Darkness, Big Boi and Dre Present…OutKast, Stillmatic, Iron Flag and many more. Get there early cause these parties are always at capacity by 11:30. It’s $7 all night and hosted by Reef the Lost Cauze.
Released on MadDecent this morning, Diplo presents Free Gucci- The Best of the Cold War Mixtapes. Diplo has gathered 13 friends to put out a 15 track remixed mixtape of the best of the Cold War Mixtapes. Remixers include Diplo, Benzi, Bird Peterson, Emynd, Teenwolf, Brodinski and more. Of all the tracks on here, my favorites are I’m The Shit (DJ Benzi & Willy Joy remix) with its heavy bass influence and Frowny Face (Emynd remix feat Playboy Tre) with the special guest verse from Playboy Tre.
The Bounce starts the new year out with a bang bringing in DJ Riz from the Crooklyn Clan. Riz has been DJing for nearly 25 years and is a legend in the hip hop scene.
Riz released a classic mix in 1999 entitled Live from Brooklyn mixing the original samples from a number of hip hop songs. Seriously, I still hear this being played and it has been out for over 10 years.
Congratulations to Emynd & Bo Bliz on their second anniversary of the Bounce tonight at the Barbary. To celebrate they have brought in well respected turntablist and hip hop DJ Skratch Bastid. This Canadian has put in serious work, most recently working on a project called Scratch, Skratch, Scratch with DJ Scratch from The Roots and DJ Starting from Scratch. Skratch has also been working on his production and remix game most recently releasing a remix of Kardinal Offishall’s Clear. Check both out below and details about tonight after the jump.

Tonight, Spank Rock will be performing live on the last stop of the sissy bounce tour featuring New Orleans artists Big Freedia, Sissy Nobby and Rusty Lazer. Emynd opens things up at 10. Drinks are only $1 til 11 and cover is $5 all night.
Bounce music is an energetic style of New Orleans hip hop party music characterized by call and response style party and Mardi Gras Indian chants and dance call-outs that are frequently hypersexual. Like crunk, Miami bass and Baltimore club, bounce is a highly regional form of dance music that has influenced a variety of other rap subgenres and even emerged in the mainstream. Lil’ Jon and the Ying Yang Twins frequently incorporate bounce chants into their music (such as, “shake that thing like a salt shaker”) and slang (such as “twerk”) And there are even several mainstream Bounce records like Juvenile’s “Ha” and “Back That Azz Up” which many people do not realize are actually BOUNCE records. And, as unlikely as it may sound, there are also a lot of openly gay, overtly camp, cross-dressing male rappers in bounce who are part of a phenomenon affectionately known as “sissy rap”.
