dsc06139 Bank Holiday Weekend Wut It Do Part 2

Can’t let Casi G hog all the blog since I rolled out to LDN for the weekend just to hang with that joker.  Even though it’s halfway through the weekend, it’s not like any of you Philly cats are really over here (other than Mad Decent, but they’ve got their own party).  Mostly it’s a chance to brag about all the amazing Notting Hill Carnival weekend parties!

Bmore Bananas

November 6th, 2008 · No Comments

bulletin_11_06 Bmore Bananas
Last night on the Jersey Turnpike, coming back from a fast&furious Mudd Up! appearance (followed by some Brazilian eats in Newark’s Ironbound), Casi G and I played Cabide DJ some Philly and Bmore club. “Maneiro, maneiro,” (”cool, cool”) he kept saying. When we got back to Philly, Casi hooked him up with the T&A Bmore Breaks. He’s been playing around with them on his MPC all day in my basement, so we’ll see what he’s cooked up for tonight in Bawlmer.

The Future of Philadelphia’s Wireless Internet Initiative: A Public Forum

June 13th, 2008 · No Comments

Nice little forum by the Media Mobilizing Project on Philly Wifi. Early warning cause its pretty important.

When: Wednesday, June 18, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Tuttleman Learning Center, Room 105,
Corner of 13th St. and Montgomery Ave. Temple University

Panelists Include:
Mark Rupp, Principle, Boathouse Communications
Beth McConnell, Executive Director, Media and Democracy Coalition
Karl Garcia, Technical Staff, Google’s Wireless network, Mountainview, Calif.
Greg Goldman, CEO of Wireless Philadelphia
Phuong Ninh, Philadelphia Student Union’s Youth Leadership Team
Bill Green City Councilman-At Large
Invited, representative from the Nutter administration

The Media Mobilizing Project and Temple University’s School of Communications and Theater are co-hosting a public forum to discuss the future of affordable broadband Internet access in Philadelphia. Please join us in helping to shape the future of the network and ensuring that all Philadelphians-regardless of their income or education levels-have access to affordable, high-speed Internet.

Under Earthlink’s management, Philadelphia’s wireless network faced both technical and customer service challenges. As a result, the much-touted initiative failed to achieve many of its digital inclusion goals-from helping local residents research information online to bolstering civic engagement. As the press reports, Earthlink is in negotiations to transfer the 135-square mile network to a local group of investors. Along with a change in ownership, an exciting opportunity may exist for Philadelphia’s WiFi initiative to serve as a national model for community media. The promise of low-cost Internet access for all Philadelphians could finally be fulfilled, but only if local residents publicly demand it.

The event will be held Wednesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m., in 105 Tuttleman Learning Center. The building is located at 1809 N. 13th St. on the main campus of Temple University. Concetta Stewart, dean of Temple University’s School of Communications and Theater, will provide opening remarks. Nijmie Dzurinko, co-founder of the Media Mobilizing Project, will moderate the panel discussion.

While an exciting opportunity exists with new ownership of Philadelphia’s WiFi network, local residents need to share their ideas for making digital inclusion a reality. This event will, ideally, be the start of an ongoing dialogue about the city’s promise to provide affordable broadband connections to all residents, as well as skills training and computers

The event is co-sponsored by: Wireless Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Student Union, Casino Free Philadelphia, Juntos, Philadelphia FIGHT/Critical Path Project, Geoclan, The Unified Taxi Workers Alliance, The Philadelphia Unemployment Project, Prometheus Radio Project, The Media and Democracy Coalition, Solutions for Progress, Scribe Video Center,
Philadelphia Community Access Coalition, The People’s Emergency Center, and UNITE-HERE Philadelphia Joint Board.

I am just so happy to have Baltimore Club in my Life

November 30th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Mix-Tape-Month-776045 I am just so happy to have Baltimore Club in my Life
Last post of Mix Tape Month bitches so hope every one has enjoyed the free shit. I think next month might be free Indy Rock CD month of hell. We will see.

JDS___BENJA_STYLES_MIXTAPE-720461 I am just so happy to have Baltimore Club in my Life
So last post gotta give away some shit I worked on myself right. This is the first 5151 mix series CD that me and Di1 repacked for the man Benja Styles and have been getting it out on a national level. Second mix will be out in December featuring the one and old D DJ J Sega, whassupp mang. Baltimore Club Music Vol 1 is one of the hardest hitting Baltimore Club mixs that I own that just covers all of the classics and runs the gammut of the best shit. If you need an intro to non internet Baltimore club this is it. No Cousin Cole, no Bird Peterson, No Rub dudes, No Titsworth, no second wavers, just straight up old school heads like Scotti B, King Tut, Rod Lee, Dj Mook, Dj Ice, Dj Class (still my fav bmore producer), Boo Man, Kw Griff (how is your import repress record sold out again at TTL, i need that footstompin), and the man Dj Technics. (insiders tip, I am pretty sure that Dj Technics sold his back tracks to a record presser in the UK so you should see a lot of his back tracks coming out soon, including shit by Griff and Jimmy Jones, pretty exciting for you vinyl heads.)

So this summer I was going over to Dwizz’s house in South Philly and just walking down the streets in his neighborhood you could hear this mix every where. Shit was just blastin from block parties to peoples cars and out of peoples houses, that’s when I decided to press it for a wider audience. I just want to share my love of Baltimore Club Music. I mean shit is blowing up but more and more people need to hear this shit. It’s the dopest shit in the world.

Anyways I have no really good stories about this mix except it might have been playing when we got pulled over by the Maryland State Police this summer. But that’s on some other shit.

Email 5151List [at] Gmail with subject “You can’t wu tang better than me” if you want this in your life. These kids kill it:

Freestyle Color Mix Tape Winner

November 15th, 2007 · No Comments

andrew-rainbowpuke Freestyle Color Mix Tape Winner

Yo its freaking Mix Tape time so lets get into it. So out of the slew of emails I got last week I am picking out Dana Z. representing Glenolden PA. Yeah I see you Glenolden. I have no freaking idea where that is and I kinda don’t want to know (not hating just stating). So Dana keep an eye out in your mail box for this CD, I gotta mail out records tomorrow any ways. Then you can put it on and write your own story and send it in for me to post. Hopefully it will be something like “I put this CD on and all I could think about was how dope Casi G is and how much I want to make out with him in the upstairs bathroom of transit.”

New mix tape for giveaway today….

I am gonna take my clothes off

Jenny killed last night folks. Seeing her up stairs at world cafe live is such a different experience then Tin Angel but it was on some super dope date shit. I bought Jenny a shot and she didn’t drink it and didn’t even make fun of me. Big shouts out to the girls who were playing rummy the whole time through both sets, I wonder who won? Thats almost as dope as the time I saw the girl knitting some socks at a show and I asked her to make me some gloves. Yo also to that lesbian couple making out at the bar I see you. Keep reachin for that rainbow.

For all the vinyl naysayers here is a quick wake up call. If an obscure female singer song writer with independent distribution is still pressing vinyl then shit still has a market. I kinda wanted to buy doubles of this shit so I could cut up and double up “Hot in Here”.
