Fools Gold / Nightshifters / Acephale artist Kingdom aka Kkingdomm will be bringing the heavy bass to the Barbary tonight. Kingdom has been on a tear ever since I first heard OMG Michelle’s You Don’t Know Michelle produced by Kingdom in late 2007 or early 2008 and his first mixtape, posted here in May of 2008. February saw his debut single Mind Reader released by Fools Gold. In January he had a feature remix on L-Vis 1990’s United Groove. Needless to say his career is only going to take off with those 2 releases coming in the first quarter of 2010.
In February, Kingdom joined fellow Fools Gold artists, Spank Rock, Ninjasonik, Theophilus London and more at the famed Fabric Nightclub (the best club I’ve ever been to) and released a promo mix. If you haven’t, download it below. It’s a dubstep / bassline / bass heavy mix featuring plently of Kingdom’s own production and more.

Sean Thomas, Billy W and DJ Dirty join forces every last Thursday at the Barbary for Trounce.
This party’s message is “music”, we want play the highest quality sounds that aren’t necessarily heard. We want to take it from West London to Detroit and from the Southside of Chicago to Germany.
Boogie, Disco, Deep & Tech House will be driving the mood. I throw that term “Boogie” around a lot there is past and future styles of it but here is how it started…
As disco went back underground at the beginning of the ‘80s, it went through a bit of a stylistic makeover. Boogie, a slower take on disco with a thicker back beat, became popular in clubs, and disco labels like Salsoul, West End, and Prelude continued to flourish with a mass of underground hits. These labels reduced the diva and the orchestral quotient of disco, and added in an array of synthesizers as well as a stronger soul/R&B vibe to their tracks. The effect was that a lot of post-disco dance music had a breezy, gliding quality to it instead of feeling bombastic and excessive.
Check it out this Thursday, there is no cover and $2 High lifes.
Last week, Sean Thomas, Billy W and Dirty all played at a special birthday celebration Sundae for Dirty. Grab their sets below.
It’s official! Double Dutch is now on Saturdays at the Barbary. This month features a special live performance from Baltimore’s The Get Em Mamis. Cover is $5 all night and there are $1 well drinks til 11. Your ladies of the tables as always are Gun$ Garcia and Lady Prowl.

Get there early for an open bar from 10 - 11! Brodinksi is playing again the next night at Fixed at Le Poisson Rouge. Tickets are $8 in advance or $12 at door. The Bounce starts the new year out with a bang bringing in DJ Riz from the Crooklyn Clan. Riz has been DJing for nearly 25 years and is a legend in the hip hop scene.
Riz released a classic mix in 1999 entitled Live from Brooklyn mixing the original samples from a number of hip hop songs. Seriously, I still hear this being played and it has been out for over 10 years.
