After having to cancel their first show and nearly opening in a temporary space for an indeterminate time, this Friday marks the opening of Vincent Michael Gallery in the Piazza with their first show “PaperMonster Ate That Little Boy”.
Behind the scenes, the gallery was quickly coming together for their first show in June until the owners applied for an occupancy permit from Licensing & Inspections. They twice went to the L&I office in person, and were met with roadblocks. Each time they went, they had to explain what an art gallery was and were met with incredulous questions as to why anyone would pay for art in the first place. After explaining to them for an hour the second time, they finally made headway and were able to speak with a manager who gave them quick verbal approval. The paperwork would be done within two days and they could focus on the artists. However, a week went by and at 4:44 PM, 2 days before their delayed opening, they received an email denying their occupancy. After having several previous tenants in the same space and being exactly the same as the other spaces in the Piazza, L&I informed them that all previous tenants were approved erroneously and that Vincent Michael Gallery would be required to apply for a variance if they wished to open. Needless to say, Tower Investments, the developer behind the Piazza, were completely shocked. At this point, there wasn’t much that VMG could do. The space as it had been built was not up to code.
Nose Go has a brand new t-shirt entitled Undercover. It’s a limited edition, hand printed, black and white colorway on a cream colored shirt. Shirts are $25 and they’re already sold out of mediums after debuting this morning, so you better act fast!
Art In the Open Philly starts today and features 35 artists creating art outside over the next 4 days primarily along the banks of the Schuykill River Park.

The public is invited to walk among the artists and observe their process of creation and craft up close.
