Santogold Everywhere!!

In a Bud Light ad:

In New York Magazine:

Where will Santogold’s whims take her next? “As a kid, I never stuck to anything,” she says. “I took gymnastics, tap dance, ice-skating, karate, violin … I think I tried to open a beauty salon in my house when I was like 7. But I found something in my journal that I wrote when I was 15 or 16. I was like”—she adopts a self-mocking tone, but a certain embarrassed pride seeps through—“I know there’s music in me, I just haven’t found it yet. Maybe the kind that it is doesn’t even exist yet.”

In the Guardian:

Santogold - the scattershot American electro-punk who is currently one of the most talked-about artists - is fine with it. “It’s like one of the main ways to get our music heard now and so it’s stupid for artists to shy away from that,” she said to Gigwise.

The new untitled song is “such a Pharrell track”, Santogold said. We hope this means it recalls the heights of Justin Timberlake and not the lows of Skateboard P.

Shooting another video, this one for Creator:

In the UK Telegraph:

“Every weekend,” she says, “we couldn’t leave the house until we’d done our chores, and he’d be playing music all day. We’d be doing the housework to [reggae artists] Black Uhuru and Eek-a-Mouse. He’d take me to these amazing shows - James Brown, Nina Simone, Fela Kuti… “He’d also take us to the record store, and let us pick out whatever we wanted. By the time my sister was 13, she had this amazing record collection - Devo, Gary Numan, the Smiths. Between her and my dad, I had pretty much every genre covered.”

Not sure if she has enough press coverage yet…Good for you Santi. What do you all think about her “selling out”? Is it necessary in this day and age when music sales are down? Does her comment about Target jeopardize her artistic integrity? What does that even mean any more?  More importantly, when was the last time you bought music?  How much of your hard drive is comprised of legal music?
